I get mine tomorrow @ 1:00, will report back when powers kick in.
Are the blood clots seen in AZ doses the same type of blood clots that women are at risk of with birth control? But the risk of blood clots from BC is something like 0.3-1%This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The mechanism is different between the thrombosis events associated with oral contraceptives and the cause for the vaccine induced thrombosis events you mention. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
In short, the hormones in oral contraceptives increases the proteins circulating in the blood that promotes coagulation.
The thrombosis events associated with the AZ vaccine is due to VIPIT, Vaccine Induced Prothrombotic Immune Thrompcytopenia, an autoimmune reaction that causes the platelets to activate due to antibody cross-reactivity, resulting a drop in platelet counts and increase in clot risk. The mechanism seems similar to what we observe with heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT).

The more you know! Thanks for the insight. The fact that they are different mechanisms would mean that the clots (thrombosis events) experienced from BC is not a great explanation for why we see it in higher % of clots in women than men with AZ vaccines. My tiny non-medically trained brain was trying to make the comparison but I see how that was wrong. Always learning something! This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

PSA: Took my 75 yr old dad to get 1st of 2 shot but he has a runny nose that I didn't notice due to mask. It was allergy but for some senile reason, he took Tylenol cold, so he lost the spot due to symptom and cautions. Now his 2nd spot is the 1st and had to wait for 4 months for 2nd shot like the rest.
So if you are helping your folks at vaccination, go thru the whole checklist before going to the appointment.

I looked at getting vaccinated here(UK) and I might be able to. But it causes an issue in regards to getting the second jab as I will be in Canada by then.
I spoke to a pharmacist friend in Canada, but there is no data on mixing vaccines yet. Or I might not even get the same vaccine in Canada. So hard to say if its worth getting one jab and and it might cause issues later. Or getting three jabs and seeing what happens.
Quite the quandary...
Doesn't Canada and the UK have the same approved vaccines? If you get a AZ jab there then just get the AZ second dose here once it's available. Or Pfizer or Moderna. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
As far as I know the UK isn't using either of the Sputnik V or Sinovac vaccines at this time.
In unfortunate news the US just threw 15 million doses of J+J in the trash because of a factory mixup. That's a pretty big fuckup.

Well or get your 1st dose and get some coverage 1st and hope that AZ will be free flowing in Canada 12 weeks after your 1st.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I don't recall the min dose gap for AZ. I remember it was 6 weeks or something.
UK is doing 12 weeks, Canada is doing 16 weeks. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
You are right. I think both are using the same vaccines. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Im trying to find if the second jab is the same as the first.
The other is issue is, will AHS will recognise if I have taken the first jab in the UK? Would having three jabs have a adverse impact?
Also from what I gather, I dont think it will be free flowing in Canada for a while. If anyone can shed light on the timeline rollout there.
If you can get your first shot, you do it. Full stop. Figure the rest out later.
Shandro has already announced that anyone should be able to get a jab in Alberta by end of June. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If I were you I would get the jab in the UK if you can. Second shot can always be worked out one way or another.
The pharmacist's questionnaire does ask if it's your 1st or 2nd. I assume they have enough precautions if it's your 2nd.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Keep all paperwork.

One shot there means one sooner shot for another Canadian too.
And honestly, you're more likely to get the second shot in the manufacturers recommended time, instead of the Canadian "yeah, we think it'll be ok 37 weeks apart?"
Looks like Canada's buy a little everything is going to cause a significant influx of doses finally.
590k Moderna doses arriving Saturday (delayed shipment from last week)
855k Moderna doses week of April 12th
1.2m Moderna doses week of April 19th
1.5m Astra Zeneca doses cleared for use now and arriving to provinces Saturday
300k Covax doses arriving next week
1m Pfizer week of April 5th
1m Pfizer week of April 12th
1m Pfizer week of April 19th
So give or take over the next 3 weeks Canada will have 7.4 million additional doses ... added to the 7.4 million doses we've received to date. So basically doubling our entire vaccine effort over the next 3 weeks (plus time to administer them). That would put Canada at 12.6 million adults with at least one dose out of 30 million eligible adults. So 40% of all Canadian adults will have received a vaccine. Pretty crazy how quickly things are accelerating.
The US currently stands at 29.8% of their population (total population, not just adults tho) having at least one dose so although Canada is only doing one dose to start we're really only a matter of weeks behind the US despite all the doom and gloom everyone seems to be claiming.
