Theres not really an embarrassing perception of that. Most of the EU realized they over-reacted and are now rebooking AZ appointments again.
To rational people, yes. But i've noticed there are a lot of people who now think the AZ vaccine is subpar and has a high chance of causing blood clots. The damage has already been done

It is subpar in that it barely works against the SA variant. I'd still get it if available to me though.

There's only been 17 cases of the SA variant to date in AB and the last was 2 cases on March 5th. I don't think there's much reason to be worried about it for now, it seems less transmissible and is dying out in general. The UK one keeps increasing though.

For now. When everything is reopening and travel starts again, it won't take long for it to come here in full force, especially if half the population is unprotected for it.

Isn’t that because of timing though? I thought both the AZ and j&j vaccine trials were done later after variants emerged vs. Pfizer/moderna were done earlier in 2020 before the variants took hold. I could be wrong tho, maybe it’s just the j&j that was later. Too lazy to google

I read the USA is sending us 1.5M doses of the AZ vaccine - doesn't seem like a lot but I guess if we wanted them sooner it helps.

Got AZ this morning. So far, arm hurts about 80% of the Flu vaccine.
No other ill effects. Will count my fingers/toes tomorrow and let you know.
    Spoke too soon.
    So far, no scales. But...
About 12 hours in. Chills, shaking, muscle pain, joint pain, headache. Oh and my Apple watch kept vibrating, I thought it was the low battery indication so took it off.
In the morning I dropped it on the charger and it was at 50%.
W.T.F? So I looked at the notifications. Several "Your heart rate rose above 120 BPM while you seemed to be inactive.
Yeah, I seem to recall feeling my heart racing while shivering.

Today muscle and joint pain continues, much less than last night. 1 brief recurrence of chills this afternoon.

The good news is they say the second shot is worse....
    Beats COVID. Probably.
Mrs. Penguin has been fine, other than sore arm. So far.

Maybe you already had an asymptomatic covid infection? So you got the shitty side effects with first dose, and 2nd dose won't be a big deal.

Got the Pfizer this morning. I'm about 5 hours in and feel decent, apart from the typical slight pain at the injection site. Have a very slight headache and the back of the neck is a bit sore but that could just be due to my poor posture or still trying to recover from my night shift on Thursday. Second dose is in five weeks.

Original forecast had Canada getting 6M doses by the end of March. With the Pfizer bump and first AZ batch we're going to be at over 8M, and depending on the AZ timelines (1.5M from the US and another 500K from India) we could see 10M by the end of March.

If pace merely holds (with no ramp ups from the last updated delivery schedule from Moderna or Pfizer, no additional AZ doses, and no J&J in Q2) we'll be flirting with 3M doses in Alberta by the end of June. Might not see any J&J in Q2 but we're supposed to see a hefty Moderna increase in May and June, and even a modest trickle of AZ makes a difference for a happier summer for people.

I'm confused... Why are we borrowing more vaccine from the USA?

We bought like 3-4x what we need to vaccinate all of canada... Now we're borrowing on top of that?
Trudeau will turn around and donate that to 3rd world and up his credit on the world stage.
Feel free to quote me, it'll happen.
Canada is broke but we're helping out peoplekind.

They've already been clawing back the vaccine we were donating to 3rd world countries. But Trudeau just gave another 150mill to some African climate alliance, so we should be good on social justice points for awhile while keeping our limited vaccine supply

So had it confirmed by a family member. If you are over 55 you can fly down to the states and get vaccinated almost immediately (Pfizer).

Flew to AZ Friday morning, made an appoint at a nearby Walgreens Saturday, flashed ID showing age walked out with a shot. Gratis.

    Canadian healthcare is awesome.

Literally no reason not to do this if you are retired, get a few weeks of golf in while you wait for shot 2.

I think you lose some "good citizen" points if you don't wait in a line for care in canada.

Except most Canadian retirees are on a very limited fixed income and can't afford to hang out in the US for two weeks, and then another week at Hotel Covid when they come back to Canada.

Rich people getting vaccinated elsewhere just shortens the line for the poor people who don't. Literal win-win.
