But yes, let me also be soft on this. I think all personnel in that bridge will be 100% fatalities and I wonder if they had any warning or possible sign that they could've evacuated the workers. Quite a tragedy.

Ship had motor failures a minute before the collision. One would've hoped the operators would've blown the horn though if you're on a bridge and hear a ships horn you may not react.

It's unfortunate for the construction workers but also fortunate because it meant it wasn't fuller of regular traffic driving across.

I believe there's enough there to deflect logs, debris and "ice damming" but I think a container ship might weigh 1 million tons... (I'll guess between 100k to 1,000k tons) and I don't think there's much that can deflect that away, particularly when it looks like if fits under that bridge with a quarter-C-hair of clearance.

I did a pneumatic testing nerd calc for ABSA once for very high pressure and large volume. It ended up being about 60 pounds of TNT equivalent and the exclusion zone was something like 55 meters.
Just horrifying! I'm surprised they accepted it. Shit would've blown to orbit, it seemed like.

I think every industry is now lowering standard for most jobs that everything is shit now. Won't be surprised that with tons of ship now routing thru Africa, a lot of them are not doing proper maintenance. Or if they are, they are done by lowest cost unqualified people.
