Equalization is tied to a formula. Take away equalization, the feds still have the same amount of money, only now don’t have a formula dictating how the money needs to be allocated. They could give even more to Quebec than equalization dictated, by giving less to the other have nots. Could give more to buy votes in Ontario, when for the longest time the formula didn’t allow for that pool of money to be spent in Ontario. And so on.
By voting yes, you’re voting to give the federal government more power in dictating how wealth is redistributed, which is fucking hilarious to think about.
