The truckers and probably the organizers who ended up in jail, appear to be complete idiots. But that's not really the point. As far as I can tell the point is four-fold
1) they had legitimate reasonable grievances about government actions. (specifically restriction on travel, employment and mandates for medical procedures)
2) they were unable to get any meeting / discussion / engagement about those grievances
3) the protests didn't appear to be any more egregious or dangerous than other recent ones which appear to have been handled much more lightly
4) after the arrests, the application of justice has had the APPEARANCE of being politically controlled. (this may not turn out to be true, but that's the perception)
I feel like I shouldn't need to mention that I got all my vax as soon as I was eligible, and I was a supporter of early mitigation measures by the government. I have not taken part in any protest or supported those who do. But even I think things have gone a bit fishy, and the government is kind of proving the protesters points for them.
