    He's right.
Factually, it's debatable. Morally, he's bankrupt. IMO

He isn't speaking to his personal morals or taking a position, he's making an observation on general society through history. One that is pretty defensible I would say.

The selfish position stated here is another of those pot/kettle things that you claim you're never guilty of.
When my "selfishness" saves lives and yours lets people go eat in a restaurant... I'd hardly think that's the same.... But in your delusional world... I guess I'm a hypocrite

"the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members" Ghandi.

In my educated opinion he is right, in this case.

If we all conducted ourselves in a manner that maximized saving human lives and minimized human suffering, we would all be living very different lives.

The deeper these pages go the further you reach to maintain your perception of being always correct. It's amazing, I thought this level of tenacity was reserved only for kert. I applaud the effort and ingenuity.

REP was also a false sense of security prior to omicron. It only applied to patrons, staff was completely free to be unvaccinated and higher chance of spreading Covid.

If I had a 70% mortality rate from Covid, I wouldn’t be relying on any measures to save my ass. I’d be bubble boy, and not play trivial pursuit.

I don't disagree with that sentiment actually, I was just pointing out that I felt you were confusing his observation with his personal morals. Mind you he DOES hate poor people...... haha

Neg rep comment: "Don't reply to YoloBimmer"

In a thread about restrictions, anonymous e-thug imposing their own idea of restrictions.

I should now reply just to spite the e-thug, but instead I will conduct myself in a manner as to minimize human suffering.

The problem with these empathy arguments is that they are confusingly narrow. People will brow-beat your heartless ass if you even imply that there is no good option and some people will be at increased risk, but that same empathy isn’t extended to the 12 year olds slitting their wrists, or the fentanyl ODs, or the small business owner who spent 20 years building their shop and making strong connections to their community, who just lost everything they built, their livelihood, and their social fabric. Or the kid who had to get the shot to play hockey, not for himself, but to “protect the immune compromised” and is now dead from acute myocarditis and a heart attack. I’ve found this hyperfocus on a very narrow set of victims really confusing, and I increasingly believe that it’s some combination of weaponized empathy combined with what I would call a vile hatred of working class white people. Ironically, this hate comes from those who think they are socialists fighting oppression and standing up for the working class. Normally I wouldn’t assume race was a factor, but they constantly tell you it is with the “white supremacist” epithets. It’s a confusing phenomenon and I really can’t stand to see folks treated that way and lied about so blatantly.

There’s no reason to believe Ghandi had any experience managing a public health crisis so I would argue that citation is not making the best case for education, in my uneducated opinion.

    You selfish plick.
The problem with most leftist ideas is that they prefer obvious but relatively less impactful solutions. They then cannot see the more nuanced, larger but more diffuse negative impacts of their policies.. Recognizing those larger scale, but less obvious problems requires brainpower and more complex analytical thinking - not usually strong suit of leftist disciples (see: kert)

This is radically compounded by "Millennial Thinking". We've got 1-2 demographic/generations of people who are fundamentally convinced that their simple idea, off the top of their head is not only brilliant, but there is no conceptual grasp whatsoever that another person could've explored that idea within the last 100 years of scholarly development and debate.
It's the most arrogant and ignorant combination of thinking available and it's running rampant.

"Duh - we'll all just drive electric cars!"

"Thanks, Boomer - but our fuel comes from corn!"

And, so on... Solving problems that have 5+ variables is not something we should be relying on a Humanities undergrad student with a vape stick to do.

Sentiments need not concern themselves with realities, I don't mind having idealist thoughts but I'm not deluded enough to let them cloud that reality.

It's an identical thought process to Ms America saying she would like to solve world hunger.

There’s no reason to believe Ghandi had any experience managing a public health crisis so I would argue that citation is not making the best case for education, in my uneducated opinion.
I was diagnosed with myocarditis in Sept, fairly mild case and getting over it now. From covid itself or covid vaccine, I cant be sure as I had both close together. My justification for being ok with it is, despite going through some suffering is I was able to do what I could to protect my immunocompromised mom and mother-in-law and keep them around a little longer. Selfish? Yes, but you haven't tried their cooking. I think it's 2 sides of a coin with both options having drawbacks; protect the vulnerable at the cost of livelihoods and lives OR watch the vulnerable around you slowly suffocate. I think if people had more empathy for each other they wouldn't be so polarized by one issue; maybe that's the middle ground? I think the images from Italy and India during the pandemic is what drives one side of the empathy debate.

I agree on the lumping into the extremists category. Agree on any one topic and be considered a white supremacist or anarchist or communist or whatever. That needs to stop.

I agree quoting Ghandi may not have been the best option (first utopian society quote I could think of), the man is a polarizing figure at the best of times and India has been a public health crisis from day 1. His idea to "starve" himself to bring about a short lived peace is a WTF moment.

Lemme just put this flame suit back on

    Yes.

Oh, and let me Spotify myself and clarify that it's not literally all millennials that think this way. Because apparently that's something that requires clarification...
