Once you get water in the intake, you're toast right? New engine?

No, just some maintenance. Unless you are banging off the redline when you do it or keep trying to start it without knowing a good procedure to recover it. I know lots of guys with v-twins that have drown them off-road numerous times with no ill effects. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
LOL! If you're in a real hurry or emergency and must get through, how would you go about getting through that without hydrolocking?
1) Stop, reverse to get enough distance then just gun it, shut of engine just before getting in the water and hope you have enough momentum to push through?
2) Drive through the water at normal speed then realize "Oh sh*t!" shut off engine immediately, get out and push the car through?
3) Get lucky and see others in the deep water before approach then stop, turn car around and power through going reverse?
4) Go super slow so the water doesn't crash so high going right through the engine bay?
5) Drive an EV?
any more ideas? haha

You could hit it in reverse without hurting anything, until the ass end starts floating. The vehicle would make enough wake to keep the air box dry at least. Nobody is going to try that on the street.
Drive a defender if driving through lakes is important to you

Fixed that for you. See video @ 2:10.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The water isn't that deep. The issue is that most people in the video are pushing a tidal wave over their hood which is drowning the airbox.
Would an EV make it?

There was a Tesla in the video that lived to see the other side...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I wouldn't bet it didn't have some Coulombs spill out a few days later...
What's the clearance on an X5? Might be a baller alternative to a Disco. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Interesting to note: Just sat in a 2021 RAV4 and they have AWD modes: Rock/Crawl; Snow. Might be a cheap alternative to overlanding if you don't need locking diffs
Just got to crank the air ride way up. Apparently the xOffroad package software added some ridiculous amount of clearance when stuck, just got to figure out how to unlock that. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

This vid is great. I think the most entertaining part for me is the ones that get out the other side, and repeatedly try and start their car. And the rattles the car makes.

I like the one that cranked the dead car up the hill, out of the boat launch with the starter.
