Congrats!
There's a guy in the neighborhood with an absolute unit of a doberman. Amazingly well trained, and obeys all commands off leash. If I ever run into him again, I'll chat him up and ask how it was trained.
Dobermans always remind me of the movie Armed and Dangerous with John Candy & Eugene Levy. Also the first dog I was bitten by as a kid, lol.
No value add post.
+2 I went there , they are great. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I agree on cropping the ears.
Congrats on the dog
In general we probably shouldn't do cosmetic surgery on animals. Tails, ears, camel lips, whatever. Just don't.

Why are people against cosmetic surgery on animals? It's not like the surgery is getting executed without anesthetic. Remember, people get cosmetic surgery too, it's not that bad.
When done on a pet, it's like buying a car and modifying it. Kind of a waste of money, but pets in general are
Same reason I'm against tatoos on children. It's not for the benefit of the kid.
Not a hill I'm dying on or anything. I'm not a dog owner, but seems gross when an animal is a fashion accessory.
What people choose to do to thier own bodies is a very different discussion.

Anyone getting cosmetic surgery is doing so of their own free will. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
You’re right. We should start treating animals more like people. After all, meat is murder. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

My dog is a medium large breed with a long powerful tail.. I couldnt count the number of times she has bagged me, chipped paint on the walls, bruised shins or kids faces...
Definitely dock the tail if you have the choice. Actually Rottweiler tails look quite a bit thicker so maybe you won't have that issue

Not sure if its been brought up previously, but the cosmetic surgeries on dogs (docking, ear trim etc) are now illegal in a few provinces incouding Alberta..
That's a good point. It's against the regulations of the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association.

Well, now that you have let that horse out of the barn, we may as well scorch this thread to the ground and talk about the ethics of infant circumcision for non therapeutic reasons. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That's actually a super fascinating topic. I'm not well educated on it, but apparently there are prophylactic health benefits to circumcision. It's worth it's own thread, lots to dig into there.

I was very young when our Dobermans were pups so I guess I forgot how they looked when young!
same as if you remove your eyelids. Your chance of pinkeye is reduced. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Cropping ears aren't also entirely cosmetic. The science is 50/50 on it preventing/reducing the occurrence of ear infection. Also with docked tails, some dogs literally can't sit properly with an intact tail. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'd like to live in a world where docking tails and ears is something that crossed my mind as a concern.
Well sounds like some of you need to go educate the veterinarians then.
