I don't see anyone on this team who is a game breaker right now. I thought we were getting that in Huberdeau but so far he's been meh. I really hope he turns it around but we are definitely lacking something. The first week or two of the year the team looked great, but we have not had any of the pop we had at the start.

Something needs to change, I don't know if that is with coaching, addition or subtraction of players or what.

First thing I would try is Phillips on the top line with Huby and Lindy. Give that a good 5 or some game look and go from there.
Zadorov had a decent interview on Spittin' Chiclets where he said when he came in it took him ~40 games to figure out Sutter's system, and thats coming in as a "Sutter type player". When you have guys like Hubby and Weegar come in who aren't necessary "sutter type players" its going to take a bit to get there. It sucks but kind of expected. Huberdeau has flipped his game entirely. Hes 2nd in the league next to Pastarnak (I think) in advanced stats for defensive forward players but has fallen WAYYYYYY down the list on offensive side. He comes across as a guy just trying to make the coach happy but going to far the opposite way.

Kadri came out hot but has cooled off quite a bit, which Sutter said was expected from guys who just won a cup. He sucked last night so hopefully he comes back hot in the new year. Phillips was VERY underwhelming in his two games he played. Ruzika has been pretty decent and has been one of the few players that has been enjoyable to watch.

At the end of the day we need to get goaltending figured out before we can do anything else. Marky has been BRUTAL this year. He leads the league in first shot=first goals this year with 6. Last night was 2 goals in the first three shots and they were muffins. His glove side is worse than Tristan Jary's ever was. I don't know whats going on with him but as Marshawn Lynch says he needs to care of his mentals.

I have more faith in Markstrom being "good enough" than I do of the guys in front of him figuring it all out. Need 2-3 big guys to perform up to expectations, and 2-3 unexpected guys to pop up and we have a chance. Would be nice to have shilly back to improve the depth defense situation as well.

Do we still have to pay him while he’s “working from home” or whatever the current term for it is.

I think Kylington is both being paid and taking up cap space while he is on his Top Secret mission in Sweden.

He's on IR. No cap space. He's getting paid tho.

The flames won't say, other than it's not a drug issue. It's not an injury issue otherwise they would get cap relief. It's not suspendable, because he isn't suspended.

And our lap dog press is pretty much ignoring the situation rather than being actual journalists.

The admins at CP are pathetic, so they would probably delete any mention of it anyway

I thought it wasn't an injury related thing.

Right now? No, there isn't. But that's only because the best players on the team aren't playing up to their ability. Markstrom has been shaky despite looking better the last few games, and all the new guys like Kadri, Huberdeau and especially Weegar just aren't at all looking like the players the Flames thought they were getting. (And are paying for).

And then there's the complimentary cast. Mangiapane isn't having the same level of success as last year, Lucic is even more useless than before, and Tanev may also be starting to show the injury bug he had while with the Canucks.

It isn't that the Flames are "bad", but that's just too many players who aren't contributing as they need to in order for this team to be successful. They need at least 2 or three of those guys to play like they can, and considering about half the games that were lost were due to 1 point, that's all it would take for them to start rising in the standings again.

So is it a matter of so many top players not playing up to expectations or is the coach handcuffing them with his system. Maybe they need to be let loose.

Losing to weak teams at home is pretty frustrating to watch. It seems every game narrative is outshooting, more offensive zone time than opponents, yet still coming out with a loss.

I'm beginning to suspect this now as well. Maybe the Sutter "system" just isn't working anymore? Too many other teams have figured it out. Maybe go a few games and just let the guys play how they want, especially the top lines.

Hate to say it but team has either tuned Sutter out or Sutters system blows.

    Flames stank.
