Let's pretend Winnipeg is the team to catch and they've thoroughly established that they earn 1.15ppg over the last 72 games. Then let's pretend that for some reason they slip by 10% in the last stretch and only earn 1.04ppg in their last 10 and that all other things remain constant. That means Jets will finish the season with 93 points and that the Flames will require 94 points to make the playoffs.
That means Calgary needs to go 7-2-1 in their final 10 games, at an absolute minimum. Have they done that this season?
If we assume Winnipeg doesn't falter that 10%, Calgary needs to go 7-0-2 in their last ten games. Has that happened this season?
They also have to play Vegas, LA and Winnipeg in their final 10, although the rest of the teams are shit.

If Calgary loses 2 more games, things will likely become mathematical.

*For those who don't know, "mathematical" means they must win all their games, and, pray to Allah that someone else (likely Jets) go on an uncharacteristic losing streak.
