I won't say shit about the oilers right now, they are closer to decent than we are. Need that rebuild baby.

Rebuild talk is Leafs Fans' talk.
Eliminate 5 games that Markstrom completely lost on them and have them win a sub-par 8 of 17 OT's. They would've been ahead of LA and barely behind Edmonton.
These aren't things that are beyond the realm of possibility for the team that won the Pacific Div in 2022.
Who cares if they are close. If you're not first you're last. The point is to win it all, not coming close to it. Just ask OVIThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

But barely scraping into the playoffs in a weak division is not my idea of success. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The division with the Oilers and the Cup Champs is a weak division?
Success is fleeting in this league, and dynasties (or regular success) is becoming more difficult. No team is truly awful, and not many teams are truly great. Yes, somebody has got to be the bottom feeder and the champion, but often it is a team that others are like... "They should have done better/worse, given the players they have" or, given recent expectations.
The Blues didn't quality in 17-18, but won the cup in 18-19. Colorado won the cup in 21-22, and lost in the 1st round this year to a not-so-great Seattle team. Washington won the cup in 17-18, yet also lost in the first round a year later. Naturally, team personnel will change from one year to the one following or prior, but generally, a team tends to be similar. Heck, look at Boston - who everyone (myself included) thought would be a shoe-in to at least make a strong run at the cup. They rolled over the competition in the regular season, but then failed miserably in the playoffs. We can see how little difference can make ALL the difference in a team succeeding or failing. If only Marky didn't shit the bed for a few games, or if Huberdeau produced as he was expected to, things might have been different for Calgary. As a Canuck fan, if only Pettersson didn't have an awful first half of the year 2 seasons ago, my team may well have made the playoffs. Or, if Demko wasn't injured for so long last season, there WAS a point in the season when post-season action looked to be a reasonable goal.
So for us to sit here and say that Calgary has a shit team and to blow it all up, that's not necessarily reality. No, they didn't perform - but I still think the team had mostly the right parts. But this off-season, they experienced a continuation of last season, whereby it's really hard to keep a group together and gelling when individuals wish to abandon the team for their own reasons. And as a result perhaps a fresh start really is required. Rebuild the team in the vision of what the new management wants to see. I'm not sure a retool would do enough at this rate, and we need only to look to the Canucks to see how a retool done wrong only proves to delay the success of a team for several more years.
So, curious. Who here thinks they should blow it all up, and who believes there are enough faithful and quality players to try a retool?
We dunno what to think or expect anymore but shout out to mcdavid for shouting out to us lol aha

One player gone, how many to go? The big question I have is: What are the Flames? What do the people making decisions believe? Are they in win now made? Retool? Rebuild? I hope the next 24 hours sheds some light on that.

Teams leading scorer traded for a few magic beans... and a late 2nd round pick? Doesn't bode well for the rest of the contract dumps that are about to happen. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
maybe we should just dump it all for a decade plus slump of last place, in hopes that we can squander a few first overalls before landing a generational talent.

People are asking about big Z? Unless we get a great return for him I rather see him stay. He is one of few players that said he wants to be in Calgary unless that has changed. He is fast, big and can hit. He has a personality that fans can love. With Looch gone, and Grudbranson the year before our team looks small going into the season. What is up with Ritchie? I can see us bringing in some grit after we acquire some skill players via the draft, trades, and FA.
Today should be busy and hopefully show the direction for the team.
Getting rid of Z isn't a high priority, but by the same token, nobody is untouchable if he's worth high enough price. Wouldn't trade him for another roster player that's for sure.

What good is cap space if players won't sign? I'd find it hard to believe a player will want to sign in Calgary when everyone's jumping ship. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Who knows. At least it will be fun to see what happens.

You take on a bad contract and get a pick.
