The team isn't a dumpster fire. You sound like Leafs fans! They missed the playoffs by like 3 points.

Losing 17 OT's is bad coaching, though. Encouraging 40+ shots per game from trash angles is also bad coaching. Whoever is responsible for that should be let go.

Anyone who quotes Calgary Puck immediately loses all credibility from me. Someone on there "with a reliable source" also once claimed Iggy had signed with the Flames a few years back for one final run and the announcement would be made within the week once they worked out a trade or cap issues too, even though the claim made no sense at the time. People make all kinds of stupid claims on there.

Or their reliable sources do at least
I'll just go neg rep myself now.

One of my favorite time wasting hobbies is trolling that forum. It is without a doubt the most concentrated collection of moronic moderators and wokie loser posters in town.

Taken from Calgary Puck... someone claiming to be in the know.

    Ouch.

    The tire fire grows bigger.
I had just been thinking the other day that Sutter was likely the reason Gaudreau and Tkachuk left. Maybe he makes them work harder than they want to. Just to confirm, it seems like Treliving didn't want to stay:

'Maloney, 64, has worked closely with Treliving since he joined the Flames as a pro scout in 2015 and later was promoted to vice president of hockey operations, a title he held the past five seasons. The two also worked together previously with the Arizona Coyotes.

“Brad Treliving is a good friend and I think a very good hockey man,” said an emotional Maloney, his voice cracking. “He left us for his reasons. But we move on.”

The organization had offered Treliving an extension back in training camp, which he turned down, preferred to delay his decision. It was last Wednesday that he made his decision final.

“I thought for sure that Brad would re-sign,” said Maloney. “And I was as close to him as with anybody. When he told me Wednesday that he couldn't do it, that was the first time that the reality was that he just needs to take some time.”'

Edwards likes Sutter. Both grumpy old bastards. So Sutter stays I guess. This team is f'd and needs a rebuild.

People were generally optimistic about the team roster going into the season. Talent wise it was a pretty decent team. Don't know too much about hockey analytics but if its anything like soccer teams should be taking higher quality shots from close rather than dumping a bunch of long range bad shots. Sutter is the oldest active NHL coach (after Canucks dismissed Boudreau). Guessing he might be too old school for the analytics age.

Tough to feel good about your career when you have to call the owner for permission and justify every choice.
Get shit on for the bad choices and never thanked for a good one.

I'm gonna be so irritated when guys like Backs and Lindy walk for nothing instead of trading while values are high cause ownership doesn't wanna reboot

If Tre were still here he would have got Lindy and Backs for Marner and Mathews + a 2024 1st. After Toronto gets swept

    Basically goaltending sunk them.

I think Sutters personality is what wears on guys, not his coaching ability. He's the 4th most winningest active coach and 9th most all time. There have been numerous reports that he's a big fan of analytics but doesn't let them be the be all end all however they seem to marry up with his eye test. I think though that his jokes don't come across and jokes and he doesn't communicate to players when he thinks they fuck up, he just plays mind games with them. I'm not a Kadri fan but you can't relegate a guy like that to the third line and throttle back his ice time without much of a conversation on it (by all accounts). Thats like Torts scratching DeAngelo all of those games and not telling him why, just expecting him to figure it out.

I think if you got Sutter to do a better job at communicating, and stop using his players to fuck with the media (see: "I think he went to take a shit", and "What number was he?") then that relationship could be salvaged. Toffoli has high praise for him.

We have a good team, all of the pieces are there they just severely underperformed this year. Goaltending was trash, and our top two lines forgot they were top two.

I'm firmly in the camp that points to our goalie coaches as a problem. The results are not there to justify why Sigalet is still here. Quite the opposite.

I'd love to see some innovation in that position. Hire a female goalie coach.

I agree with all of this. Though I think the "what number was he" was a 60 year old rancher's idea of being funny. Also the media takes runs at him for line juggling Kadri and Huberdeau around, imagine if he had put them up in the press box for a couple games?

Mikayla Demaiter for goalie coach and handling all press conferences?

Lol yes. But also females generally being smaller might have other tricks and training to stop pucks that we've overlooked.
