Bruins are the second highest scoring team in the league. The only team out scoring them is the Oilers, who have 20 more goals. The Oilers also lost a lot of games this season to their abysmal defence core but shored that up at the trade deadline. They’ve had the best record in the league since then.

So I don’t see why it’s far fetched they have the highest odds. It’s not like the Bruins are far off being the close second to favorite to win the cup

Plus it’s money puck, who thought the flames still had a 34% chance to make it.

I'll defend 338 canada before Moneypuck for sure.

If the Bruins and Oilers meet in the final round it’s going to be one hell of a battle. Both teams will probably need all next season to recover from the injuries.

This is a bad take. Strength of opponent matters, and the opponents are unknowable, in fact, they are very knowable in the NHL Playoff system. Edmonton will have much weaker opponents in the first two rounds than Boston.
The best record ever in the history of the NHL. They played the majority of their reg season games against Eastern teams that are "much better" and still stacked record W's.
To not say they have the best chance is feelings. Negligent feelings.

You are a smart guy, I'm sure of it, but you are wrong.

Ullmark has a .938 in 49 games and Swayman has a .922 from 36 games.
Care to look up the Oilers? I'm guessing both tendies are below .900 which works fine when you get 5 goals every game... Except that doesn't happen as often in Playoffs...

I think Edmonton can and may beat Boston, but these odds are supposed to be based on math and to give Edmonton such a huge % and even put Boston out of first is le shit du horse.

Skinner is .914. The piece of sh*t from the Leafs is like .500 so having literally no good backup is going to be a problem.

If the playoff matchups were unknown, I'd agree with you because the bruins have shown to be superior in so many ways. But, and see if you can follow me here, matchups matter quite a bit, and the oilers have a much easier path to the finals.

Jesus how did you trick me into nearly sounding like I'm defending the oilers? God Damn your mind games.

But seriously. I think an Edmonton vs Winnipeg matchup is extremely dangerous for the first round. They have been swept by the Jets very recently.
    Where's the factoring for that?

I understand you have big feeling and your feelings are real and valid, but your feelings are not reality.

But it's not about feelings, and that's the key thing which is why I find this so frustrating. Boston has established a consistent record of winning 5+ games before they take a loss, for 80+ games worth of stats. Math. It's astonishing! It's never been done before. How that record doesn't equate to maximum probability of success in the playoffs just because Edmonton has a good 10-game surge is silly. Boston has an 80 game surge and it gets discredited. That's not math. That's feelings.

Playing either Panthers or Islanders in the first round isn't scary. The Panthers were magically swept by TB only last year. And while Horvat adds a lot to NYI, math still doesn't see them coming out on top against the onslaught of Bruins.
They are inconceivably good and deep and their PK is amazing. Start playoffs where the whistles get put away and the importance of defence and goaltending becomes more paramount, and Edmonton still looks awesome, but a whole lot less awesome. Not highest odds awesome.

I'll only pay attention to ensure that the Jets Oilers and Leafs get knocked out

If the Oilers get knocked in the 1st round, you think the Flames fans are irate... Lol

I wish there was some sort of system that would tabulate a metric whereby we could use that metric to gauge the success of teams.
    Not in my lifetime.
A team loses 12 games over an entire season and there's some pretend debate over their cup chances...

Again, let me reiterate that I don't necessarily think Boston will win. But these stats aren't math.

Surprised to not see a 110% chance.
Most guys are giving 110%, am I right?
