Had the pleasure of driving in the NE. Geez. 16th Ave is inch thick ice the whole way to stoney tr.
Guess it keeps the poor drivers from making it to the rest of the city if they can't afford good tires.

Wow you guys love the d.
I'll toss my vote in the ring for studs needed this past weekend. we covered all four corners of the city on Saturday - Stoney, Macleod, etc.....the usual complaints here (folks who can't drive on perfectly dry days seemed to be out in full force, hazards, didn't clear their snow off, no lights on.....).
At one intersection in evergreen, i counted at least 6 sets of tracks on the median at a tee intersection, wiping out both stop signs, and all the trees. Someone even went full send and stopped their vehicle by rotating 90 degrees and used their (now bent) control arms and (also bent now) rims to parallel park against the square curb across the way. the lol's.....
For Halloween someone dressed up as the missing D haha

Slipped a little this morning (all-seasons) on a Deerfoot offramp. Pretty sure most of the drive was actually icy, but I didn't need to do any sudden manoeuvres to find out, because Deerfoot was only going 30-40km/h the whole way.

Yeah, studs would be great all weekend. Coming to a off ramp not able to slow down til last second was fun. Lucky nobody was behind me.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

So out of curiosity, are you guys positioning your tires where there’s grip? I mean if I kept my tires with the same tracks everyone drives, I’d prob want studs everywhere. Or are you like me driving off line where there’s more snow for more traction? There are very few intersections where it’s completely polished and no grip anywhere imo.
Anyways I’m basing my stud days based on acceleration and cornering mostly anyways, more curious than anything.

I try and drive offline of the icy tracks, but sometimes you have to drive in them due to idiots who can't think. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That's not really an option unless you are the only one on a single lane road. I did got out a bit to find traction going into the off ramp. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
But this weekend is probably 1st time this season I kinda want studs.

We should do de-icing on the slippery tracks of the road but there's no way to predict when we might need to do that, so it's impossible to account for in a schedule.
It's pretty fucked in the NE. Most of the secondary roadways and ramps are solid sheet ice. Even good winter tires don't seem to make much of a difference on that stuff. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
the drive south on deerfoot today was fucking brutally slow, for no real reason other then people being terrified.
I have had to shift the wagon into N as I roll up to an intersection because even at idle and feathering the brakes the thing keeps on sliding. And I have to find traction for both tires as one side will lock up immediately. Tires are Goodyear Nordic Trac.
In the dirty SE you can go from glare ice intersections to bare and dry in two blocks. At least the fresh snow gave me traction on the ice.
