I'm going to sound like a huge fanboy but the Supra's lap time is seriously impressive considering it still rides on decade old Michelin PSS's, not even a PS4S.

I agree on the Supra comment! That feels like punching way above their weight.

Is a PS4S not R-compound? I hate Michelin almost as much as basketball and a huge part is their nomenclature. I am not smart enough to keep all their incredibly similar, stupid names separate...

I'm pretty sure the prevalence extends far beyond that. OEM on a Mazda 6 and an RX350: the shit-pieceingest tires I have ever owned said Pilot on them.

I realize that their big boy tires mean business, but that word "Pilot" is more like writing "Michelin" twice in a row than an actual differentiator of performance, season, purpose... Anything.

I went looking for proof and it appears that they have slowed down on this, more recently. They still make very average tires that are "Pilot" but it's not everything like I was saying.
10-20 years ago they made certifiable garbage that was Pilot though.

I went with Pirelli Scorpion on the SUV. Come to think of it... they're getting a bit Pilot/Wranglery with their Scorpions, as well.
