So they've moved out and have careers, serious relationships, etc?

Because that's where the impact of helicopter parenting becomes truly damaging.
The one has yes. Amazing career and relationship.

The other is still in grade school and has exceeded every expectation I could ever imagine so far.

I find it funny the amusing the guy who mentioned IQ just a few moments ago is dismissing someone else's perspective and comments as "entertaining."

Your golden god at work, folks. Perfect health. Perfect blood pressure. $95 dollar lunch. Perfect kids.

Busters comments are purely an attempt to ruffle my feathers, he has no good intentions.

    Seriously LOL

    WTF

All the power to you if you feel successful - I would never try to convince someone out of that self perception. I wasn't even directing my comment at you, I was directing it anyone who might be reading your "advice".
Who has a more successful career? The failed geology-tech turned realtor, or the finance (not sure?) guy?

As a viewer of siblings in multiple households growing up… without being a parent myself, I can say with a degree of confidence that there is no single “right way” to raise kids. If there was, siblings would all be identical to each other, and that’s never the case.
    This.

I feel like I'm failing as a parent with my youngest, because I let him figure everything out on his own. But, he's proving me wrong. Has his own bank account and credit card and buys shit on his own at stores. He found out those dumbass Prime drinks was limited available at Circle K at normal prices, cleared them out, and opened a store at the street corner selling bottles of prime at cheaper prices than what "As Seen on TV" was selling them for. Learnt to figure out worth of Pokemon cards using websites, and buying/selling them at his store to neighborhood kids. He's was doing $50+ in profits a night. The bad? He's a huge NWA fan, which is inappropriate for his age (he's 7).

But I agree, even though he defends 89sedan too much, he's a ray of light in here.

@ExtraSlow I only have one piece of advice. You'll support your child but ask that they not do any sort of HRT or surgery. That's all I've got.

I probably won't be posting detailed medical information for my family members on beyond, but I can say from having looked into it that it's a lengthy and long-term process to get into these things, and the younger the individual is, the more difficult and long-term the process appears to be.

I don't know how it works in other places, but as far as I know, you can't get true medical interventions here under a certain age, and even over that age, if you request them AND have the support of your family, the process takes several years before they really happen.

I'm pretty sure the we're past the period of time where kids and their parents could eaasily fuck up a kid's life permanently by undergoing actual transition as a minor via surgery or puberty blockers

Autonomous decision making skills are highly important. Maybe the most important

I am not an expert, but that's my impression as well. It's not easy or something that can be done on a whim, and there are a lot of roadblocks to accessing that kind of treatment. Which I think is for the best. you don't want this kind of thing done to someone who has a "fleeting fancy" or whatever it was called earlier.
