I'm a bit surprised we haven't had a thread on this given how many Beyonder's have kids that are daycare age.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...-ahs-1.6963499The number of E. coli cases linked to an outbreak at a number of Calgary daycare centres continues to rise, with 231 people now infected, an increase from 190 people on Sunday.
In a statement, Alberta Health Services (AHS) said that, as of Monday afternoon, 25 children and one adult are hospitalized. 11 patients have been discharged since the onset of the outbreak.
21 patients, all of whom are children, have the severe illness hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), said AHS.
Fewer than 10 of these patients are on dialysis, the health agency added.
Our daycare was one of the 11 and thankfully my children did not catch it however I know a few of their friends were pretty sick and spent time in the hospital. Its truly heartbreaking to see just how many sick kids came of it.
However, it blows my mind how bad AHS has bumble fucked this. Communication has been next to none, and what you do get comes at the 11th hour. The first time parents were notified of an issue was at 6pm on the Monday of the long weekend when everyone is gearing to go back to work. Then the next update was "come get a stool sample, when you get a negative test you can go back to daycares starting the 11th or 12th". Yesterday we got our negative sample and the print out of the lab results from our doctor and we figured between that and the daycares getting twice daily updates of names of kids who have got negative tests we would be good to go back on opening day - nope! AHS sends out a letter at 4pm yesterday saying that the only way for your kids to return to any form of child care is with a "recind letter" and that lab results and the results they provide daycares are not sufficient. When you call health link you get one person saying they will be snail mailed to you then another person saying they don't know anything about recind letters then a third person saying "we don't know how they are going to send those out but I would think they will probably call you to get your email".
We just came out of global pandemic dealing with the spread of illness and having to define who is sick and who isn't yet it seems like AHS completely forgot everything we've learned. If they are this bad in dealing with familes of children who are not sick I cant even imagine how bad they are with familes who do have sick kids, and the stress that must cause on top of caring for an incredibly sick child.
