Sounds like a slam dunk for starting up a new telecom company if they are so profitable.

How would government investing in broadband affect your service if you didn't have anything until Starlink? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Your options now are seemingly nothing, or Starlink. Government "controls" the infrastructure build to provide access and allows multiple providers use it, then you'd have those options, plus Starlink.
I am talking about the government bragging about investing in us rural livers for cell coverage and/or internet, but actually doing nothing for most of us... Corporate came out with an answer that has worked better than anything government could do ala Elon Musk seeing a need and finding a way. Government interference = useless tits at the trough. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If the government is the one providing alternate infrastructure to places that don't have it, what is the interference? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If the option goes from Starlink or nothing, to Starlink or something, what interference occurred?
are you suggesting the new government telco would provider service ONLY where no existing commercial option exists, and avoid all the cities and towns? or am I misunderstanding you?

In using your referance above, starlink is less likely to better their service because Govenment is mandating the share there competitive advantage with others who haven't needed to shoulder the same growing pains(costs) Less government is best government

Are you being deliberately obtuse or really don't understand? I can't tell anymore but I know better than to continue being a fly hitting the window over and over. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'm not suggesting a government telco provide service at all. I'm suggesting they provide the infrastructure, as that is where the entry barrier is for both service and competition. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

What aren't you undertanding? You seem to be equating potentially getting an alternative source to service as interference in service. Why?This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

How dare any for profit worker make money off of us!
I guess the data transfer across the entire country just kind of happens with no investment... right?
I think there's a word for the mechanism that allows supply to meet demand... Is escaping me.

Sounds interesting. I’m assuming we build roads or sewer pipes or water pipes based on this mechanism? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The Government protects the big 3 so hard it hurts. There's a reason no big entrants have come to Canada and the small ones who have tried have generally failed. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
See above. They've already basically socialized it, only in the worst possible way where they both pump in taxpayer dollars and let a "private" oligopoly stuff their pockets. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
They already do interfere but not in a good way (although shared infrastructure has worked well in other markets - not sure how good the GoC legislation is, though). And yea, their investment is bogus. At the same time, rural communities would never be served by the private market, other than for high cost, so it needs to be regulated somehowThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. $5500 per person (not household) could buy 5 years of Starlink for every single resident which means 20 years for a household of 4. It's not spending the money so much as to how efficiently (err, inefficiently) it was spent. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
