Default TEAR YOUR FAMILY APART - Christmas 2023 edition

Let's start fights over the holidays. Meaningless but controversial discussions to spice things up.

I'll start: on icy residential roads, should the car going uphill yield to the car travelling downhill, or vice-versa?

Always yield to the car climbing

Should Santa bring all the gifts or the parents give the majority and Santa gives a couple??

Imo downhill should yield as long as they aren’t out of control.

Santa brings one (the best one) gift for each person in the house. The rest is from family.

Edit: forgot, Santa also stuffs the stockings with oranges, chocolates, and candy.

Kids are young and still believe - Santa will bring a cool present, but not the best, here. A lot of work hours went into a Nintendo and accessories, it didn't come from hopes and dreams, and the kids should know that. Especially if their cousins/friends get transformers or something equivalent, not dealing with why Santa brought a present 10x as expensive.

In my daughters case it's the exact gift she asked mall Santa for, and typically it's not the most expensive one. All she asked for this time was a doll accessory that was like $25. For the adults it's whichever one they choose to be the "best" before the presents got wrapped. We always wrap all the Santa gifts in the same paper, and never reuse it for our other gifts.

Even before we had a crotchfruit, we always did the "one gift from Santa" thing.

Edit: Speaking of "exact gift" from Santa, I think the hardest one was when she was four and wanted "a robot dog that really pees". We couldn't find one that pees, but did find one that shits out the little treats that you feed it.

Agree with this. We never have the most expensive coming from Santa. We don't want to feed into the whole "why did Santa get little Johnny an Xbox and little Suzy a pair of socks?". I don't want my kids being the ones saying Santa brings all this crazy shit when he doesn't for other kids. It's pretty easy to have a story about why they asked Santa for the XBox but he checked with us and we already had it or something.

Plus we had friends one year who's Santa gift broke, and they had a receipt? Don't even remember how they explained that.

But back to OP, argument topic: Should families with kids have the both sides of the parents' familes together (where viable) or still have 2 separate visits with each side?

I was never a santa parent.

If I'm not going to let my kids be retardified by believing in one magic man in the sky, why should I encourage them to believe in another one?

This is an excellent response to OP. Suggest using this statement verbatim, around the dinner table with as big of an audience as possible, including children for maximum effect.

Did you buy a Switch? If so, which accessories did you get? My Wii just crapped out and my 5 year old and 11 year old like playing Mario Kart. I ordered the Switch and wondering what other things I should be buying. Might order a better controller as I've heard the Nintendo ones tend to drift a bit.
