City of Calgary hosting a forum on Reddit. What an echo chamber that is going to be.

“How would you articulate that all of the cities problems are caused by the UCP”

I'm concerned that my taxes are not low enough to properly demonstrate my concern for the climate emergency. Can you let us know when the next climate sustainability hiring fair will be?

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Is it possible for you to screw over my landlord while I as a tenant being financially unimpacted?

You guys give the city too much credit. No one is coming out to re-access your house.
In my case last year, I spent an about an hour drafting a Word doc with 4 bullet points using some market sales data for the area.
To file the complaint cost $40.
The ARB called to settle and I accepted the revision with no meeting.
The ARB refunded the $40, because it was a mutual agreement.
The difference in my tax bill was over $800 had I not appealed.
You may not even need to go through the ARB. Just call the assessment department and talk to them, they have the power to adjust the number themselves. If not, and after talking to them you still think you're assessed too high, pay the $40 and spend 30mins putting together some backup information.

I'm up 7.2% this year which puts the assessed value ~$40-50K higher than what I think I could sell the house for. I called the assessment department, and they didn't budge so I filed a complaint with the ARB. The HonestDoor number for my place is nearly $30K higher than the assessed value, that number is even more out to lunch

I think you mentioned this last year too, but this post is an appreciated reminder. I'll try this approach, thanks!

I have a hard time with honest door nowadays because of the drastic jumps. Apparently I gained 60k since December.

Yah looking back at what HonestDoor said my house was worth in October is hilarious, they make even the CoC guys seem reasonable

I called assessment and they were quite helpful in giving me the data they were working with using 2 comparable houses. They were not willing to make any amendments over the phone.
What is crazy to me is their CPI time adjusted price per square foot was $399/sq-ft versus the actual $314/sq-ft on the actual sale price.

It seems like they really could give two shits about $/sq.ft. In my community, my home is on the smaller end and that's what seems to be overlooked by the city when they come up with the number.

City to look at reducing property tax raise. But doubtful it'll garner enough votes
