    Default Salvage inspection paperwork

How long does it take insurance to send the paperwork to the government?
I'm waiting to get a salvage inspection form and it's been 42 business days.
All the work is done but registry cannot issue the inspection form as they don't have it listed as salvage in their system yet.

Can anyone speak to how long this process takes? Slower than doing the physical work yourself, clearly.

Few years ago had a car written off in December, didn’t get the letter from Alberta Transportation that the vehicle status was updated to salvage until sometime in mid-July of the following year.

Where are you going for the salvage inspection?

Was considering GS Auto but open to other preferred places.

That isn't what I wanted to hear. Was this a covid government back log or before covid?
I'll have to buy another vehicle if it's that long then for the time being, been walking and CTrain but it's getting old quick. No way I can do this all summer.

This was during covid so probably a backlog. I ended up keeping the car though so that could have been why it took so long for the status to get updated.

Do you still have your MR2?

I've ended up keeping my vehicle too. Hopefully this is resolved faster but not much hope with government employees working at minimal speed.

I still have the mr2, rarely comes out. But I also think back to the crashed mr2 I bought off you and attempted to drive home in it. Lol. Bad idea but a great story. That motor lived for years and still is alive.
@ExtraSlow we can talk. Gotta do that timing belt for you too.

Keep us updated on how it all goes in the end. I couldn’t find much info when I was searching so hopefully this can help someone else.

Lol time flies, was a decade ago already! I really wish I kept that crashed mr2, think about it from time to time. JDM mr2 prices have pretty much tripled since then. Good to hear you still have yours.

If the status hasn't changed, and your work is complete. Can't you just register it normally as Active status and drive it until the status finally updates? If insurance is the hang up due to them knowing it's been written off, then you could probably just get a policy at another company for the time being. It would save you from walking and being harassed by crack heads on the C-train.

That was my next move. Probably a decent loophole.

Insurance adjuster replied to my email from the weekend and said she sent the online form to government of Alberta and referred me to the Alberta salvage inspection process website. I already knew that portion but there was a phone number at the bottom that I called and managed to get a hold of someone. They took my phone and VIN and I eventually got a call back from them.
Said they did a batch of vehicles today and they verified that my vin was in the pile.
Process should have been submitted within 6 days of the closing of the file.
Government process is dependent on the amount of vehicles they need to process.
Lucky day or did someone not send it in?? We'll never know.

Ordeal is over. GS Auto and Harbour Auto did the frame and mechanical inspection. A few things needed mechanical attention and John at Harbour got it fixed up.

Can you do the frame inspection before you put body panels on? Or does the car have to be complete for inspection ?

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Pictures lots of pictures of your progress but no, you need panels on as they measure those and the gaps.
But don't come up the welds etc with seam sealer till after inspection.

Government document explains this pretty good surprisingly.
