As long as the exec's get performance bonuses like the CBC, what's the problem?!
Defund Canada Post and CBC. Let the market fill the gap.
Why do you hate these good union jobs?

These discussions on government-provided services "losing" money are always interesting; it's a service which is supposed to provide service at a cost; it's not necessarily there to run a profit - it's an expenditure. Governments aren't supposed to function as businesses and they shouldn't be viewed through such a lens, and these topics serve a very right-leaning agenda to privatize and pass (often greater) costs of service to consumers by introduction of a profit margin.

I'm for defunding the CBC, but no private market is going to fill the gap here.

It's because you fuckers keep ordering shit from Temu and Aliexpress. Let China exploit a system that isn't designed or compensated for commerce.

If i only had letter mail delivery one day a week, I'd be perfectly ok with that. That would be some significant savings. 75% of the letter carriers no longer required, 75% of the letter courier trucks no longer required. That ought to be worth a billion or so annually. All packages should be pick-up from a depot anyways, instead of wasting paper on "missed delivery" notices.

I live rural, still pretty close to a city center but a Canada post carrier is by my house every business day. It's like I never left being in town.
25 years ago when I moved into Cowtown from A-town, I was shocked that I got delivery right to my door. Even back then that seemed completly unnecessary. Now it's just silly.

I think it's funny that people think Canada Post is "broke".
the entire government, public funding, public pensions...all of it is broke.
True, but up until 2017, CP had a pretty good record of actually earning profit for the government instead of being just another underwater institution. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
