Got tired of the stupid tap tools that come in the kits and picked up these Irwin versions which can be used with a 3/8 ratchet.

Farm-2-feet merino socks from Marks. Come in XL size, so they hopefully won't be stretched over my heel too badly and tear in 3 months of wear. Plus, winter is coming....

Amazon. $36 for the pair. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Picked up a couple ecobee premiums to smarten up my hundred year old house. Amazon had a decent price.
Should be good for my forced air zones. Not sure what I will do about my radiant zones yet, the moron who installed them didn’t do in floor temp sensors which is a pain to retrofit.

@killramos why do you need floor temp sensors? I've done vanilla nest (i.e. reading the ambient air temp) to control radiant floor heat, and it's worked fine. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I've been contemplating ecobee but my builder grade trane system offers enough of an app that it doesn't feel worth it to replace six thermostats (three in-floor zones, 3 forced air). Only the 3 forced are 'stats are "smrt".
More of a personal preference thing, want to in floor radiant heat to run enough to keep the floor warm to the touch, and the forced air to do the rest.
Otherwise you have forced air and radiant both trying to do the same thing which imo will lead to the radiant being off too much to keep the floors warm.
My radiant system is mostly “dumb”, I basically run it all the time and control the flow rate with ball valves to the various zones to my but dyno of comfort level.
Sounds like your system was setup with more forethought than mine.

You'd better work harder on increasing that social media presence. Start by leasing a car on the upper end of your budget, and ensure you include it in every post. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
well i definitely relate to the "competing sources of heat" challenge, i just solve it caveman style, i turn off, or set low, the forced air for the zone w/ radiant heat. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I too enjoy the "warm to the touch" sensation of the floor. I find that the three zones I have in the basement are unnecessarily complicated. Eg it's a ~1400 sqft basement. it didnt need 3 zones, and one will invariably overpower (in terms of contribution to heat in the basement) the other which means some parts of the floor feel cold. Annoying. No good caveman solution to that yet, short of hardwiring tstat zones together (which... i may do)
