Roof accessories... so hot right now
You can get some pretty level rails that keep the Rtt setup almost level to your roof if you're tossing it over your box like I'd like to.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Been looking, the free spirit recreation tents are super nice. Actually have even a tri layer setup that's good for year round camping.
Thats the point.. you still see them being used in front country all the time, which makes me laugh. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The last time I saw a RTT, it was on a car with 100% bald tires. He wasn’t over landing anywhere, and really should think harder about where he is allocating his money.

Honestly, is it any better buying a trailer like most people do and use only a few times a year? $2500-$3000 for a Rtt setup or $15,000-$25,000 for a trailer lol. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If you find one that accommodates you plus 1 comfortably please let me know as right now, I can't find anything that isn't too tight and you're bigger than I am!This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I say stupid shit all the time.
I have a weird hate for these stupid tents lol...
6.5' Box and a topper is the ticket. That how i used to overland (at music festivals). Just make your bed with a giant foamy, then roll it up and stuff all your shit in behind it Pull your stuff out and your bed just unrolls. "The Bears Den" is what it was called.
There are lots of nice setups in the truck caps. Usually a platform bed with lots of storage underneath it.
I would consider one of those for a simple setup if it was just me going out. IMO, these are better then a RTT.
Back of my taco for when I go north.. definitely more comfortable then a sleeping pad..
Nobody's hating, real overlanding is awesome. We're poking fun that an activity that has its roots in the Aussie outback (where it was literally the only way to get from place to place) has become an Instagram fad where folks strap an RTT on their stock Impreza and declare themselves overlanders. It's become the Crossfit of offroading. 90% of today's "overlanders" are really just campers with expensive tents. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
@JRSCOOLUDE I will let you know what I find. I did find a couple that said they were 4 person RTTs, but I haven't actually gone to check any out in person yet. I am still trying to source an appropriately rated bed rack to support the weight of the tent, sleeping supplies, and people inside. One that I did find is RCI, looks really easy to assemble, and has an 1100LB static weight limit and 225LB limit when actually overlanding. I think they were originally made for Tacos, but they have a setup that fits my F150 too, and keeps the tent mostly below the roof line. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. A few of the tents I want to check out:

Price points are all over, but I want to compare what they are, materials used, and setup and take down functionality.

If you put one of these on a topper, you could have back country condos.. maybe put it on air bnb.
+1000 for this. Better than a RTT in every way, only exceptions being ability to sit up straight and trendiness. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Only major issue is condensation when cold.. use my roof rack for something useful

Most of my friends are scrambling around to book "camp grounds" for summer weekends. This appears to be a place where they tow some trailer or pop up (or, egads! a tent!) to something that resembles a trailer park with some trees. They then call this "camping".
