They say nothing is certain except death, taxes, and a Flames goalie letting in an absolute muffin.
Beyond that first stinker though, Vladar played unreal. I was super impressed with him for 57 + 5 minutes

Flames stink.
The fact the flames haven't called up and given Phillips a shot is criminal.
I can't wait for him to leave and excel elsewhere.
Isn't there some sort of issue with waivers if they call him up? I thought I read that he would be subject to waivers if he didn't stay with the big club the rest of the year and if that was the case we would for sure lose him. My guess is they want him to keep crushing it in the AHL and get that development time in so that he has a legit chance at making the roster out of camp. I would assume thats why they brought up Gilbert, because he wouldn't be a massive loss when he gets sent back down. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

They have 30 days to send him back without waivers.
That gives him at least 5-10 games to see if he can stick.
As I understand at this time they have no cap space to bring Phillipa up. We have Rooney as the extra forward and Gilbert the extra D. Not sure if MacKey is with the Wranglers. Gilbert has played pretty well in my opinion and he has shown some toughness in attempt to earn more time with the pro team. When he goes down, a F can come up.
We certainly don't need two 'tough' guys every game. Against Carolina we can use a more skilled forward instead of Looch or Richie. Who will they bring up next? Phillips has great numbers. Zary and Pelltier are doing pretty well too. It would be great to give Phillips or Zary some time on the top two lines. I don't think Kadri with Eat Bread and Dube is working.
Huberdeau need linemates he can click with. That could be Backlund with more time. Lindholm, Ruzicka and Tofu worked well for a few games and may continue to do so. To me still Backlund is very underrated. He plays key situations, PK, PP and wins key faceoffs. He is one of few players who can penetrate the O zone without doing the dump and chase.
Somethings have to change. Vladar has played pretty well and given more play time he might become great. Markstrom's mental game and/or positioning need work. We can use some sparks and that very well can be injection of a young player. Just have to give the player time and not switch lines so soon.

What you just said is exactly the problem with this team.
They're prioritizing mediocre depth in lieu of skill.
Wave Rooney and you save $1.2mil in cap space immediately, call up Phillips
Huberdeau- Kadri - Phillips
Mangiapane- Lindholm- Ruzicka
Coleman- Backlund - Toffoli
Lucic- Dube - Ritchie
The Rooney contract is weird. How did he earn such a big raise from last year, and a two year contract, for a guy who rates under 10 minutes a night here?
The more I watch hockey, the more I realize how thin the line is between being a winning team and a losing team. The Flames, Oilers, and Canucks all have the potential to be solid, playoff-bound teams. Goaltending has been an issue for all three so far this season. Canucks can't defend properly, the Flames are having difficulty scoring, and Edmonton has ALWAYS had difficulty scoring outside their two players... and although they've improved their depth and actually don't have a bad second line anymore, the rest of their team is shit. If any of these teams resolve even one of their main issues, they will instantly leap the pack.
Parity, it's a bitch. But totally true.
Oiler had breakthrough when they brought Kane in, now they are back to square one. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

At least Markstrom sees that part of the problem with the Flames is himself. I think I've been bitching about him since page one or two of this thread this season, he has been downright bad.
Last nights first goal was straight ???
I wish the Flames only problem was markstrom. The team has a LOT of issues...including a coach/GM that seem to think old grinders are the way to win.
I still can't believe you're watching this shit. One could argue you're not a fairweather fan and a closet real fan. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Anyways, aside from Markstrom, our issues stem from lack of creativity, and when we try to be creative, the team just isn't playing well with one another. One guy thinks the other guy is going to do A, while the other guy is doing C. So they dumb it down, and it becomes predictable and easy to defend against.
Like that 3 on 1 yesterday. Was brutally obvious what they were going to do. Allen read that easily. Compare to the previous game, watching Florida's PP how fast they were moving the puck was a clinic in how to run a PP.

Yeah I've personally not been too happy with how hard Sutter has been playing musical chairs with the lines, way too much juggling. Might take a few games to see what shit sticks to the wall once you move it around.
And obviously not giving Vladar the starting job for the foreseeable future, he's been great.
Jake Allen made saves let’s not forget that
Flames need more chemistry

They're in a world of hurt if they can't figure something out pretty quick here.
sad. MK seems to be doing just fine in Florida and Money stole two pts away from us last night. seems like we are .. started to feel like we are losing on the trade front, then again comes a hot streak and all will be forgiven,
