Not a real shocker based on some of their previous moves, the south store has got to be a multi million dollar loss before COVID and hasn’t sold a thing since..

Probably wouldn't have stayed afloat much longer; the covids just accelerated it.
It's been a long, slow fall honestly - Like you said their store expansions, quality downhill, pricing up, medicore web presence, etc. It's a shame, as they were a home-grown company, had ethics overseas in their factories and originally had good quality shit at a reasonable price... RIP

Nothing gets bought out. They get sold.
Id be curious who, if anyone, is getting rich off this deal, being a COOP
No one gets rich, the people they owe money to get less poor

Ha, so less idiot vegan granola jaywalkers to hit, on 10th ave. Not sure if that’s a good thing.

Just read this, sounds like top exec's didn't know how to run a business.
Now I see why mec never had good sales. They shipped end of season stuff back to warehouse. Only to forget about them in storage and order new at the beginning of the next season.
Massive gross mismanagement. No former high up mec employees should be hired again for anything other than employee schedules.

"Almost any retailer could find some unaccounted-for stock buried in a distribution centre. But MEC was sitting on a $4-million product backlog."
That was well known. It was run by SJWs. I mean that's nice and all but revenue matters.
They basically fell into the same problem other co-ops get into when they want to get bigger. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Mistake the benefits of the co-op for good fundamentals, then see the co-op aspects as a hindrance. The board basically scrapped the 'democratic' parts to let them pick and choose the right business people for the board, who tried to expand the business and compete with the bigger players. Trying to pick from such a limited talent pool when other options are available to get the direction needed to compete exist was dumb to say the least.
Can't run a co-op like that. MEC wasn't the first and won't be the last to fall like this, but it definitely sucks. Have a lot of great stuff from them from over the years.
Who cares? MEC sucked anyways.
...
As previously discussed. MEC was a pioneer for outdoor activities in the mountains and had great stuff in the 70s and 80s.
Sucks that they fell off. I still think there's a market for high end outdoor gear that they could be manufacturing, proven by Ark'tyrex.
SJWs: "why are CEOs paid so much? It's so unfair!"
See: Co-op, Mountain Equipment
