What was the alternative to Kijijiots? Continue to have the bikes take up space or throw them out? Ya gots monies for them so you're still ahead, no?This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The alternative was to donate them, give them up to neighborhood kids that need a bike. Win for everyone. My point is, that $250 was not worth my time dealing with no shows, passes, and people later on in line offering less money complaining that it sold under them. I had one lady try to guilt trip me cuz someone ahead of her paid more and she lost out, whining about her kid being disappointed. Thank fuck I have zero conscience. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I literally only put them up for sale to validate this thread. It's valid.

I've taken to only posting on facebook marketplace. But only on closed groups (west side buy and sell, alberta MTB, Aspen buy and sell). Learned this from my wife.
If you put "prompt pickup" it basically mean, first person to show up with cash, gets it. no holds.
Sold my used bikes in hours with no negotiation.

I don't have FB but my wife does. She puts up these couches we were giving away. Within hours shit tons of replies. My wife messages the first lady that messaged saying she can have them, she doesn't reply for hours and hours and of course other messages are pouring through. So my wife is replying to all of them saying they are spoken for.
Following day still no reply from the first person even though my wife again messaged her saying something like, do you still want them, we are getting a lot of messages give us a time and day when you can take them. Way later a reply comes, 'yes I will take them.' How is that a reply to time and day please. Wife messages her again about that and no reply for a while.
I tell her to fuck it and go down the list. The next person gets messaged and within minutes we get a reply, I will come tomorrow evening at 6. Done.
First one never replied. The couches go the following day. Then the first person messages 'yes I still want them'. STILL no fucking time and date in the message (not that it would have mattered).
Anyway, wife messages sorry too late, we gave them away. She then immediately messages saying shit like you are a bad person, I am going to report you to marketplace admins etc. I tell her to just block the old broad.
Moral of the story? Fucking idiots everywhere - Kijiji, FB doesn't matter. Perhaps somewhat better on FB as their profiles etc are available but it's a bloody gong show.
At least with Kijiji they don’t know who you are haha.

Should have put them on here. I was looking for the exact bike that Benyl sold (even started a WTB thread) and missed out by a few hours... ended up buying one from Kijiji for $300

FB Market Place vs Kijiji, I use them both but am starting to prefer FB.
Interface is better and responsive compared to Kijiji.
Less animosity (even though I use a fake account haha) and can post to multiple groups.
I've had prospective buyers ghost me in the past so now it's whoever that can come the earliest with cash gets the item.
FB market place is the best. For some reason, people on there just LOVE to overpay for stuff, and they line up to do so. I still post on Kijiji for exposure but 9/10 times FB comes through and often at full asking price. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
We had a mattress up there for free, stained, deep "V" in the middle, 15 years old, completely ruined basically. All of that was mentioned in the ad along with photos. We literally just didn't want to bother taking it to the dump. Ended up getting so many messages people started offering us $40 to come take it away lol.
Camera gear is even better. People don't check current pricing and are lining up to buy used stuff near full MSRP without warranty. I've even made money on a couple lenses, it's crazy.
Sold all of our junk from the move as well, basically stuff that we were going to throw out or recycle but decided to see if anyone wanted it first, and people were lining up to pay us for it on FB.
And I agree - the fact they have a picture and a name seems to weed out most of the tire kickers. Most people that we've encountered so far don't even try negotiate.
Maybe this is just me, but I don't love that it posts to all your friends that you have listed something...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Woh woh, lets not get ahead of yourself... after all, your donating bikes to people that need them. Sorry to break it to you, but you might actually be a good person.

Fair point - I think a lot of people use fake accounts for this reason. I only use FB for the marketplace, I haven't even looked at a news feed in over a year haha, so I probably wouldn't even know.
He did that donation a year or two ago when MyQ left his garage door open. It just wasn't a kid from his neighborhood. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

My daughter got a new bike for her birthday. Old one was $20 two years ago, and had a flat tire. I left it beside my garage with a "free" sign on it and it was gone in 24h.

I just registered both of my bikes on the bike registry as per the brochure sent along with my Trek bike. So just a reminder for anyone buying bikes to do that as well.
