I didn't say that, I was just nitpicking. You were basically saying no one decides on where to live based on a potential, or actual, employer. Very false.
You can have your nitpiks. It's all you have.

Not as a primary factor, but certainly a factor for me.
Whatever. If there was no team you'd still be here. Or what, if they were the Houston Flames, you'd move there?

Depends on the timing. My primary factors are work, entertainment, and kids. Work factor is gone, WFH I can go anywhere. Uprooting kids is a definite no, so you're right, if the flames left today, I wouldn't move. But 10 years down the line with neither tying me down? No entertainment value, albeit hockey or concerts, I wouldn't hesitate to move somewhere with more entertainment options. Why make money if you can't spend it?

edit - took a look at my historical photo locations map, my #1 spot for photos is my house, and #2 by a huge margin is the Saddledome lol. Maybe I'm an exception. Maybe not.

It’s not economically viable for a sports team to build a 100% privately funded arena in Calgary for just a single NHL team. Now, if we have a big enough market for 2 or 3 pro leagues in a single arena, that changes the math significantly.
Don't you cowpersons have a cfl and lacrosse team too?

If I was a Bolts fan I’d totally move to Tampa, but for other reasons too. When it comes to Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg or any other Canadian team (maybe Vancouver exception), I doubt anyone moves there specifically for the hockey club.

Can they incorporate an aquarium into the new Ice/Entertainment District?

I can pretty well guarantee you absolutely fucking no one decides on where to lived based on the presence of an NHL team, or any other pro sports team.
I disagree and think you are underestimating how many people love watching live pro sports. If there are two cities to pick prospective relocation to and one of them has far better entertainment options, it's pretty easy to see the sway. Now whether there are more people, or less, who care about entertainment is another question but that isn't the one you posed. Nor does it have any overall impact on the feasibility of the thing making direct economic sense.

I wouldn’t move to a specific city to follow a team i cheer for. That’s just silly. I’d move somewhere where theres hockey and basketball to watch, go to games where teams i cheer for would play.

What ever happened with that? Based on your phrasing, she didn't get away with it?

Depends on the team, city and other things that interest you. Tampa would probably fit my needs for hockey, football and golf if I was interested in those professional teams. Season tickets are cheap too. Plus Florida vs Calgary winters...

You guys are as dramatic as reddit. Public funding for private business doesn't fly in my books - regardless if I think a new arena is necessary. Why should I fund a private business? If the economics made sense, someone would have done it already. Calgary doesn't have any flair. It has a low cost of living and high wages with shit awful weather for 7 months of the year.

I think the feds should fund arenas primarily used for NHL games. $9 trillion in debt what’s another $500m. Don’t fuck with Canadians and their hockey.

Genuine question. Would it be better if Calgary builds an arena/entertainment centre and long term lease out the space to CSEC and concert promoters similar to the current arrangement? That way it's not directly funding a private business, but CSEC will get a better deal out of it.

I think Gondek is sewering her political career very quickly.

Lets look at her resume in her few short months as Mayor.
    1) Declares Climate emergency
    2) Created significant division between the city and CPS
    3) Created significant division with city council
    4) Went rogue and sewered a $600million infrastructure project which was the lynch pin holding together an entire East Side revitilization

She's exactly the Mayor Calgarians deserve.
Yep. Were no better than the Torontonias, Montrealais or Vancouverites that vote for Trudeau year after year expecting something different. Its laughable, actually.
