Based on today, the best option they’d have to hotswap into the seat would be JWR as she’s now the most bulletproof person around.
I have had a sneaking suspicion that there will be a leadership push by her for a while.. we'll see when it drops. She's essentially the perfect candidate in this current day and age. Highly educated, woman, indigenous, stands up for her self..

The perfect candidate for what party? Liberal power brokers will never trust her to do their bidding, and thus, she has no chance of leading that party. Defying the PMO is worst than treason, it's sacrilege. Unthinkable.

    Pretty much.

She's the perfect candidate, which is why she can't be a party leader. Another great paradox for governments.

Anyone who somehow wasn't cynical before this debacle will be now.

It would not surprise me if that they knew she would be the perfect candidate, and this was one way to push her out... and she had more evidence then they thought.. A lawyer/woman scorned...?

Her Father said last night that a leadership run is not in the cards for her as she lacks the financial backers and connections to important power brokers to form a leadership run.

Basically. Hilarious to watch the moral bankruptcy of the Lib party.

    That's Politics 101 though.

    Like Trudeau's statement last night:

"I would like to start out by listing all the good things we've done. We also disagree with her statement, and even if true, is outweighed by all the good things I just mentioned. I will take questions but only in butchered French. Merci and God Bless."

Watching that last night was gut-wrenching.

This is no different than what Mr. Chretien did - 'I created a vast scheme of waste and corruption to keep the country together' - in that case, would it have not been better to decentralize further and avoid all this horseshit?

In this case, with regards to QC and SNC - had they actually held the responsibility (provincially, not federally) then they could have stewed in their own shit. SNC and QC public pensions do not concern the rest of Canada. Some politician in QC would have been crucified and the rest of the country would have been just fine.

This is Liberal Party and its voters in Quebec and Ontario. This isn't some exception. This isn't a rogue PM and his staff. This is literally the makeup of the Liberal Party to the core. This will never change. There will be no elimination of this type of behavior from Central Canada. The best solution is still to deconstruct confederation.

Agree 100% - decentralize the feds.

Let the provinces work out their own agreements for trade, pipelines, inter-provincial migration, etc.

If BC wants to piss in their own water for eg, then that is their perogative.

Leave the feds out to manage foreign relations.

I think this is giving the feds way too much credit.

Well, you wouldn't want QC to manage foreign PR for eg.

Also, there is a pending lib scandal/lawsuit regarding the Mark Norman debacle (had no idea personally)

I think he's trying to get out ahead of it and try and divert to someone else. I would love to see everyone turn on the PM but they will probably find some other lacky. I fully expect his testimony to be something along the lines of "at the time I did not realize that we were pressuring her but I can see now how, with everything else she was dealing with (of which I knew nothing about), it could be interpreted as such. However, I was only acting on what was asked of me by XYZ"
