    Default Trick Or Treating

This will be the first year I'm taking my kids trick or treating in Calgary. I can't seem to find online anywhere rules on what times you can start taking them out and what time you are supposed to stop. Nova Scotia has set times and it ends pretty early.

Does Calgary have this or should you just use your best judgement?

Pretty sure there are no rules. I see most traffic between 5-7.

Most people need to get home from work and eat dinner... Don't knock on my door till after 6:00. Kids can keep going as long as people's lights are on. If lights are off no ones home.

I'd say anywhere from 6-8pm is the window

6-8 depending on the kids.. some can last till 9.. But don't go to late so you can sort their haul at the end and they can have a few things before falling asleep.

Yep, if porch light is on, giv-er. We see a real slowdown after eight, but a few stragglers around till nine.

Usually soon as it gets dark I start getting kids at the door.

How many do you guys usually get for kids? I just moved into my neighbourhood and not sure if I should expect 10, 50, or 200 kind of thing. I meant to ask a neighbor but totally forgot until today.

Whoever comes first will probably get epic candy and then less and less as they flood in lol

Yea I'm not overly prepared to the possible amount of treaters either. I grew up on a dirt road and I think 10 was most we ever got haha. I'll prob have to shut the lights off and hide in the basement depending on how long my young kids last out there.

We might get like 10, lol.

The funny thing is, whenever I run out to do an errand, there's hundreds of kids walking down the main drag, but they never come up our cul-de-sac.

Stupid kids, cul-de-sacs have the highest ratio of candy to walking distance.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Young kids with parents always come earlier (before 7:30) and the older kids and teens that want free candy come up until 8:30/9:00 typically. Once the outside light goes of we are done...

This! Loved growing up in woodbine for this. Close proximity to the baller streets where they gave out full cans of pop and full chocolate bars to every kid. Couldn't carry the pillow case by the time I was done a few streets.

Tonight will drive me nuts. I don't hand out candy so keep my light off, no decorations, etc.... yet I still get pesky kids knocking on my door for candy and setting my dogs off into barking frenzy's.

Pesky kids need to get off my lawn.

I will agree with the 6-8. If your kid comes at 4:30 when i am pulling in from work they are getting rocks in there treat bag.

We usually don't get many kids, maybe 15 at most between 6:30 and 9ish, the latter time is usually the kids who are on that edge of 'too old to be trick or treating'. But with it being a Friday and supposedly decent weather maybe it might be more this year. I have this somewhat 'tradition' of if there is a small child, maybe at most 7 and it's later, I dump almost half the bowl for them.

Funny thing is living right next to Pump Hill, we usually get bypassed and you can watch droves of kids walk up the hill for full candy bar houses, they seem to know the Jews always give out the good stuff I guess

This year Im just going to shut off the lights, last year I had about 13 kids, its just not worth sitting around a whole evening for, especially a Friday night when there are so much going on elsewhere.

Most young kids with their parents come out at around 5:30-7, with the older (under 12 kids) coming out around 7-8, sometimes as late as 8:30-9.

Some years Ive seen as many as 35 kids/groups, but it was dwindling drastically the last two years, so its just not worth it for me anymore....

Yeah, we're just going to watch movies in the basement.

I might put up a sign that says

"Pregnant woman inside, candy all gone"
