No, energy service company with midstream operations. Can't say I'm surprised they are letting go of drilling services and project folks with projects being shelved. Not really sure what our drilling services dept actually do to be honest... (But same could be said for a midstream dept).Originally posted by Feruk

Dad had his position with Conoco terminated last week. I've weathered the storm thus far but it's been pretty rough. (65 people down to 35 people in our office over the last ~18 months)
A guy on the CP forums were saying that not only were cenovus expecting layoffs in october but also re-evaluated compensation (sounds like pay cuts to me) and then more layoffs early next year if no signs of recovery.

Plains? I thought they hired a shit load of people right up to summer break.Originally posted by gkAeris
plains did layoffs this morning
Actually I was surprised it took Cenovus this long to act. They didn't really run a lean ops IMO and took on a lot of people who bailed from Enacna last few years when Encana was sinking.Originally posted by nzwasp

Just spoke to my buddy over there, apparently the release was quite misleading and represents the total cuts since march. There were definitely some on Friday but not as bad as it sounds.Originally posted by supe

Sure sounds like something that would make for a good... poll??Originally posted by Cos
So I am curious, how many people who are getting let go from O&G, I imagine it is quite difficult to get a job in the same sector right now. How many people are waiting it out/retiring and how many people are changing industries altogether?

The layoffs in October were in regards to the previous announcement (Calgary and field). The possible layoffs early next year are targeted at the field locations..Originally posted by nzwasp

Dont sweat it Balla, Especially when your million dollar home paid for. Just HELOC for chump change spending and cover that once $1.2 Million dollar house sellsOriginally posted by Sugarphreak
sounds about right, lol
This job market is a damn nightmare
Oh well, even at part time I make more in a week than EI pays in a month. I guess that is still an upside to this mess.
The power of the HELOC. Who needs emergency savings. Tap into that house. It's like taking money out of the piggy bank.
