Terrible movie.
Halo season 2 has delivered thus far.
Dune 2 was good. Not great.
They probably found it hard to edit... And it shows. The script was dry. The acting was decent but not noteworthy. It had significant pacing issues.
By my count is DVs sixth best movie: Arrival, Sicario, blade runner, Dune1 and prisoners were all better (and in that order).
Same. We watched both episodes last night. Looking forward to the new one out today! This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Been watching Constellation.. 2 episodes in.. don't have a clue wtf is going on.
Re-watched Dune last night in anticipation of the new one this weekend. Every bit as good as I remember it being. Can't wait to see 2.
Also watching War of the Worlds TV series. Its not bad but not great either - started strong but 4 episodes in and still waiting for the next thing to happen.
I had to look this up. I was thinking, there's no way he's talking about the series from the late 80s that was a direct sequel to the 1950s movie... I assume you're talking about the 2019 one (which I didn't know existed until right now)? Is it on one of the streaming platforms? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Spaceman on Netflix

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

Does 2 the finish of the story of 1, at least? Or does it end in another cliffhanger in anticipation of 3?This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Just want to know how many more times I need to pay to watch a single movie plot.

It essentially finishes the adaptation of the first Dune novel. It also does an obvious job of setting up future films based on subsequent novels in the series. Villeneuve said in an interview that he'd liked to wait about a decade and then make a third film based on the second book. Good times. Dune 2 is worth the IMAX experience just for the visuals and incredible work from the directory of photography/cinematography Greig Fraser. He won a very well deserved Oscar for the first Dune film in 2021, and deserves at least another nomination for this 2nd film. They used massive numbers of extras/volunteers, they did such a great job on scale, making some of the large group/battle scenes truly look like tens or hundreds of thousands of troops. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. The Zone of Interest was so good.
Fucked up view on dreams and aspirations.
I just watched The Holdovers last night and really like it. I can definitely see why it got so many Oscar noms.
As I finished watching it last night and saw Past Lives is also available on Prime. In the spirit of the upcoming Oscars, that will probably be my next movie night showing.

I don't honestly think there is enough material in the second book to make a standalone cinematic experience. They'd probably have to do something similar like the mini-series where they combined books 2 & 3 into a movie, or perhaps 2 movies. But book 2 by itself just isn't enough IMO.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Very likely - they did a 3 part "Children of Dune" in the early 2000s on SciFi after their year 2000 "Dune" with the same cast, and it was 3 2 hour tv episodes IIRC - and I believe it covered both the 2nd and 3rd book as you suggest - and it worked really well. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Agreed still regarding Shogun, it's my #1 right now, and Halo 2 as stated here already has delivered.

Watching special ops: lioness on paramount.
Pretty good.
For anyone interested in the Best Picture films, I just noticed that Prime has a lot of the nominees available to stream:
Oppenheimer
The Holdovers
Anatomy of a Fall
Past Lives

2 movies on Netflix I found good.
The forgiven.
The dig.
Just randomly came across them and watched. Both coincidentally have the same actor as main character (Ralph fiennes)
I finally saw Dune part 2 on the weekend. I was surprised how busy the cinema was. I've only seen maybe 3 movies in theatre since the covid lockdowns, so I don't know what the new normal is, but things seemed like its back to pre-covid busy. (this was at the South Edmonton Common Cineplex).
What can I say, the movie was excellent. It delivered, and was everything I expected it to be based on what we saw in Part 1. That said, there were still a couple missing characters and plot threads from the book, and the most significant change was the ending. It deviated on several aspects. (Can't get into details without spoilers). But its possible that part of the reason for some of the changes was to set things up better for a third movie (based on the 2nd novel Dune Messiah).
