Sick of nest and their bs ( have 2 cams I’d like to convert to Unifi ).

Looks like you can also buy an adapter to use the nest cam with poe for power and data which would be a nice option.

Not sure why they can't make their own accessories as wasserstein is also doing the solar panel.
The hilarious thing about the new cameras is that it’s the google experience all over again. These are NOT supported by the classic Nest app, you have to move to the google home app, which is all but unusable. Where as the old nest app shows all the live images at once, then when you click through you can easily scroll back in time or click events, the Google Home app has none of that. It shows icons of each camera, not even a thumbnail, and goes into live view. Click more to go to history and it’s events only. If there’s no event recorded (maybe very minor movement) I don’t even know how you scroll to that. It’s hilariously bad.
Using starling homebridge gets you a better experience in the Homekit Home app than the mess that’s google home.

Got it.
Nest is dead, Google is just squeezing blood from a stone at this point with the name.

It’s just google doing google things. They are so bad at user experience especially when it comes to migration. On the bright side there’s still life in the nest app, they haven’t even supported the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in google home. So if you have a those smoke detectors and the new cameras, you have to use 2 apps. So I don’t think it’s google purposely trying to kill nest, it’s just that everything google does to transition in house is so bad that it ends up driving people away and killing things inadvertently. It happens constantly in google ecosystem even with their own products. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Neither supports using anything but free gmail still. That’s also hilarious to me that I have a corporate gmail domain and have to use a free account just for nest in the nest to google migration.
Classic nest is still the best. I’m hanging on by a thread here and expect to get fucked within a year or 2.

I decided to grab a Nest generation 4 thermostat, since they are down to $130 at Home Depot. I didn’t read up on them at all, just needed a replacement stat for my detached garage. The Nest app will not work with the new stat either, so had to start using the brutal Google Home app. Just a heads up for anybody considering these new pieces that will be sold in the dollar bins soon. (I still like my Gen 3 Nest in my house)
Get an ecobee.

Nest has been a dead ecosystem for years.
Good product hamstrung by google nonsense.

Google is just a modern Mad Men. Almost all their revenue comes from advertising.
As a tech company they make a lot of really terrible decisions and products.

60 more. This was a spontaneous purchase at Home Depot. Gotta draw the line somewhere and the idea was to stay using an existing app. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It doesn’t work with the Nest app?? I have a Hello and a Protect still working with the app… are they moving everything over to google home soon? Or just new devices?
I’d think just new devices. The 4th Gen t-stat is 100% Google, no Nest to be found anywhere except the box label. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

They should just stick to their knitting and make phones and OS.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Their OS makes zero revenue.
Their phones I would wager are a net negative.
Their cloud services are in general total garbage. Amazon and MS are light years ahead. It's so bad there's a good chance Alphabet will shut it down.
