Nest aware getting MUCH cheaper. One fee no matter how many cameras you have.
$12USD for 60 days of event recording and 10 days of 24/7 recording.

Thank you for bumping nest thread, the best thread. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Is that cheaper though, gets rid of the 5-day which was $50/yr first, $35/yr others so that would already cover 3 cameras assuming it is $120 cdn/yr. The cheaper sub plan is also only event recording which is kind of useless.
For me it allows me to connect more cameras so it’s a big benefit to me.

I only have a nest hello so the new plan sucks for me, so I googled other articles and they read like existing users will have an option to keep the old plan which is good.
Man, I want to switch to Nest from Ring...but I don't have any power to my doorbell area, so I need to use a battery based one.
That is true as I already have 3 myself and wouldn't mind like one extra. The extra audio detection now from the other google nest products appears to only be in the new awareThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Lots of crime these days in the deep NW.
It just runs off the power from the doorbell transformer. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That said, I would maybe wait until the new year to see how this whole google nest thing is fleshed out. It’s been a borderline disaster so far.

if you had an existing standard chime doorbell, you technically have power there already. Depending on the voltage you may need to replace the transformer but that's a quick fix. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Had a great experience with Nest this week.. on the weekend my doorbell became disconnected, and it was actually the doorbell that failed. It was around 18 months old and they offered to replace it free of charge. No idea if they looked into my account and saw ~7 other google devices, but that was impressive customer service.

Yes. I think they moved the doorbell when they re-did the stucco at some point in the past and their solution was a battery operated basic doorbell. Probably worked for years on a AAA battery. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Any points you can take a look in the wall to see if the old wiring is still there?

Any of you with nest cams, Google is downgrading camera quality later this week from whatever you have currently set it to.
Be sure to go back in and restore the quality of your cameras to “high” once this is done.

Thanks for that. Mine are still showing high but will check back. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I just wished homebridge actually respects the high bandwidth video feed option properly. Home app viewing nest cameras aren't as clear as nest's native resolution.

Yea mine haven’t switched yet. I found my hello on default but that might have been me as I only reinstalled it last week. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I am also disappointed with the HomeKit quality, works in a pinch for getting a view but need the nest app for quality for sure.

I'm only in the nest app when I want to find something hilarious that happened to create a clip. Homekit works well enough, biggest advantage is that when doorbell rings, I can open the notification and unlock the door right from there. Literally got homebridge just to solve that one problem when my parents came over. Funny because that hasn't been used at all now with zero visitors lol.
But yea, the higher quality video would be a nice to have.

I don’t have the smart locks yet, but it’s in the plans. Just haven’t picked what product I want to go with.
Secretly hoped some slimmer options come out this year but this COVID thing probably means no material product announcements this year.

I like that it still accepts keys.
How’s the interior size? That’s what bugs me about most.
I need to get my doors trued up better before I install smart locks though, they are poorly aligned at the best of times.
