The real dream of our country is to receive more from government than we pay in. The sad part is that it's really hard to convince these people why that's mathematically unlikely.

Lots of folks believe in perpetual motion machines.
There actually IS a pretty healthy portion of the population who receives more than they contribute. They just don't care that the rest of us can't claim the same. It's only right, being that us rich pricks are all part of the patriarchy who is responsible for their poor circumstances anyway. And being poor is a moral virtue after all.

People who get more from government than they put in?

You must be talking about government employees.

I would guess Government employees actually aren't on that list.

Of 27.5million tax returns, 9.1million pay no taxes. Yes that's right, 33% of people. Yet they still utilize Healthcare, roads, etc, etc, etc. And for those that make less than 50k, it's pretty questionable. And this old data, which doesn't even account for the mass influx Trudeau has caused of refugees, foreign students, etc.

See the way I see it government employees are like the usual band of leeches except they also get their salaries without doing anything valuable.

Interesting write up on current CPP you guys should give a read.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/PersonalFin...a/s/6goO9Xqqxr
Paying into CPP is no different paying into school systems when you have no kids.

You are paying for hopefully stable society.

Someone who paid max CPP for 30 years and start withdrawing at 65, there is only enough money to sustain payment til ~80. Living beyond 80, your kids and grandkids are paying for it. And there will be 3x more 85+ ppl by 2050. That's why now there is CPP2 in play and expect contribution to accelerate for CPP2 soon to keep up with demand.

CPP2 was meant for redditors. They'll never hit that threshold, so the rest of us are paying for them.

    Time to go.

    https://nationalpost.com/opinion/sec...broke-they-are

Canadian productivity — measured in terms of GDP per capita — has been trending downwards since at least the 1980s. But this has accelerated dramatically in recent years — even as per-worker productivity rises in many of our peer countries.

An analysis last year by University of Calgary economist Trevor Tombe found that if Canada had merely kept pace with U.S. productivity growth for the last five years, Canadian per-capita earnings would be $5,500 higher

I mean none of this is new. We are a country of rent seekers not value creators

I don't believe Buster has the sole power to separate AB from Canada. If he did, it would probably be done already.

Canada is a boat anchor. Time to cut our losses.

I probably asked this a dozen pages ago, but does anyone think this is actually possible? I would definitely vote in favor of it, don't get me wrong, there's just a million moving parts that would have to align to make it work.

    Sure why not.

I think the bigger issue is do we have the balls.

Still plenty of bottom feeders in this province who will get cold feet.

Let's say there was a strong majority of Albertans today who would vote for this. If that were true, I think it'd take 15 years to execute. I think an individual should "vote with thier feet" for practical reasons if they feel strongly.
The USA is close and accessible for motivated individuals.
