I assume there has been an outbreak in a High River nursing home that has not yet been reported.

I thought these assisted care/retirement homes were in lock-down - I had to visit one the other day in the NW and I was expecting to talk to someone over a speaker - nope, walked right into reception where no one was wearing masks (I was).

They were limiting visitors though - but it definitely wasn't full lock-down.

You can’t lock these places down at all. Most staff are PT and work at multiple facilities

My thoughts: I don't think the economic impact will be as bad as predictions. Look at it like this: We already almost completely shut down for one day of the week anyhow, Sunday. As long as everyone is on the same page, which is much easier to do now in todays interconnected world - it might only be a matter of "shut the lights off at 5PM on Friday" and then "reopen at 9AM on Monday". Its just a matter of picking a day to restart. Wuhan will be the model.

    ^"Wuhan will be the model"?

Wuhan should never be the model for anything. Ever.

Sure it should, first in first out. New York is probably not the model on this one. Disease is as inevitable a disaster as a Tokyo or California earthquake.

As for US knowledge: The US intelligence warned the US military in the Hubei region back in Nov 2019 that there was a disease of some sort and would be "cataclysmic". Fully documented warning to remove US personelle from the area.

I mean seriously: The US knew before the Chinese government claims to. Which is just - draw the lines where you want - but that one documented "cataclysmic" note may end up biting the US in its ass. BTW: I hate "cataclysmic" its such a jenky word, sounds like a vibrator toy.

BBC has been a good news source, compared to canadian and especially US media.

Good read on the situation in India. It's just a matter of time until India is massively fucked. We have it so easy comparatively.

Bbc is the best English language news on the planet. It's got flaws, but I think it's valuable to read a "foreign" perspective particularly on things in the USA.

I always enjoy BBC, it’s not even incredibly right wing, but it seems to have a better grasp on reality than most.

Germans did testing to see who currently had the virus, plus those that had antibodies.

good read. If the data there is representative, then this will have a pretty big impact on policy decisions. I think we'll know a lot more about population level exposure in the next month in North America.

In California, the virus has flopped worse than the last Terminator movie.

I can't, it spits me back out to the front page for some reason, and I don't want to post the translation lest I get accused of not taking the KILLER VIRUS SERIOUSLY!

"Hanson said he thinks it is possible COVID-19 has been spreading among Californians since the fall when doctors reported an early flu season in the state. During that same time, California was welcoming as many as 8,000 Chinese nationals daily into our airports. Some of those visitors even arriving on direct flights from Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in China."
My wife is convinced that she's already had Covid. We returned from Mexico in late January and a week and half later she was super sick (fever, dry cough, super achy) for nearly 2 weeks. So who the heck knows.... I'm really curious to see testing results of random people across North America. Has there been any controlled testing of 'non-sick' people in Canada yet?
