I hope schools stay closed tbh ... at least for the fall semester.

I do think we're going to see some ugly numbers today, my guess is 400 new cases over Fri/Sat/Sun.

Based on the CBE survey results, I feel it will be back to normal in September for kids, Universities have already said they are going online, too many school aged kids parents complaining they need schools for child care

My opinion - schools should stay closed, redirect the budget towards chrome books or something to enable remote learning, create a virtual classroom experience

Problem is too many kids won't social distance, too many parents think this is over blown

My daughters school is projecting class sizes of 28-30+, unsure how you enforce proper distancing with those numbers

Very hard for the economy to function at full capacity when kids aren't in school. Our economy is based around the idea that parents of young children can work outside the home. I can't comment on the public health side of that, and I won't.

I still don't understand if the goal is to prevent infections or to prevent the health system from being overrun. Initially it was about Italy and triage deaths. But now we need to prevent all cases and deaths?

Is it even possible to keep schools closed until there is an acceptable vaccine? What could change between September and the vaccine that would allow schools to open? I think cases will jump when schools open and maybe that's acceptable?

I think schools should temp check every kid coming in as a start.

Crazy timing to catch it on camera... now throw the book at that clown (who allegedly had done this to other people on previous days).
He's not the only unstable guy, I saw a guy who is driving down 4th ST SW and opening cough loudly intentionally with windows down into opposing traffic.

Teachers will go on strike. School won't open in Sept. Unsafe work environment is probably the excuse. But mostly probably to take UCP down a peg... seeing how the nurses and doctors are taking it right now.

Virus might be like that ant fungus or ant worm that causes the ant to go pure crazy in an attempt to perpetuate itself.

Nature does not always explain its reasons. Syphilis also has been suggested to take over the brain and actually make people do crazy things in an attempt to infect as many as possible.

Temp check is pointless if this spreads without symptoms.

Mandatory vaccine is the only way school goes back to normal. But if mandatory mask is any signs, there is no hope for this province.

The masks are only a recent problem...

We all know the massive amount of parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids as-is, good luck making a vaccine mandatory.

The opt-in thing is a great idea. Public service unions are pure evil.

Anyway - Teachers better be careful what they wish for. If the world figures out a way to educate kids better than sitting in a classroom with doing chalk-and-talk, then that will be really revolutionary. Going on strike might force people into that solution.

Glad they already caught the guy. Its almost impossible to not be caught nowadays as long as you are within range of a camera (cellphone) or the 11 or so simultaneous cameras that will be watching as soon as you enter the downtown core.

You can attribute a lot of it to GPS and HD captures, but more importantly - to the second accuracy of nearly every modern device that goes out to the internet to get a time code. As soon as you have a verfied time code and a place, you can get 10 other cameras to verify the actual crime.

Its scary, and yet reassuring in these times. Glad its around now as anti-asian rhetoric ramps up. Defund the police because AI cameras do it better?

    Time to watch Robocop again.

Claims to be non partisian but doesn't refer to the UCP as the provincial government in the headline.

    Relevant MedCram today:

A $2 test with 15min result and get sent home if positive? This will be a game changer for going back to school/offices.

They are non partisan in the sense that if a party was to arrive on the scene that was more pro union and give teachers more money than the NDP they would be open minded in supporting them.

In my opinion keeping schools closed will not be of a significant benefit to the pandemic situation. Instead of kids being with other kids inside classrooms, they are now outside with all of their friends completely disregarding the social distancing thing which seems to be the concern when it relates to classrooms...

368 new cases over the weekend which puts Alberta at 1,109 active cases now. Calgary up to 449 active cases (was 170 a few weeks ago). Edmonton has been trending down slowly to 193 active cases. ICU up to 17 people (from 6 a month ago).

Things gradually getting worse again though it primarily seems to be younger people catching it.

To keep things on my own personal narrative. As a theoretical: Lets say Buzz and 1,000 of his clone Buzz octogenarians decides to try and outrun the virus by showing up at the Canadian border. If we tell him to wear a mask, do you think he will just shoot the guard and not think twice about it? I'm thinking shoot, because he for sure can't take the slightest bit of criticism without sucker punching, even with extreme white priveledge (or maybe it is exactly because of it)

Canadians are definitely woke to something.

The difference is indoor vs outdoor. UV can help to a degree.

Wait until ICU is full before we lock down again. I think that is what we are heading towards. Hinshaw just won't say anything until the NHL playoffs are done.
