CoC employees are substantially over paid, and they know it. They do not even include compensation amounts when they issue letter of employment

First time I've ever seen an EMS being described as "unreasonably well paid."

I used to be and yes... many are. Personally I never thought a lifeguard/swim instructor with only a Highschool diploma deserves 31 dollars an hour.

However, since I just moved to YEG and left my subbing position at the CBE (not gravy, but still provided income) I have been unable to get on to a board up hear and am working security at the temporary drop in centre.

Let me break out my little violin; teachers are under and often under respected. But I know beyond doesn't see that so lead on with painting a bullseye on my back now...

I dont think teachers are not respected here. Most just think teaching should be a meritocracy.

I think the best teachers should be paid MORE.

This. After coaching for almost 7 years and being heavily involved with the school system, so many great teachers and so many incompetent ones. Just like any profession I guess but still hard to believe when you witness the kind of crap that make you wonder why they decided to be a teacher.

It's funny, came up on crackmacs a while back... The totally divergent opinions on teachers.

One of my absolutely hated teachers in high school was somehow on this list of "great" teachers. No f*ck that, the guy compared me to my brother and sister within the first few classes. Lost all respect that very instant - never regained any, and yes the comparisons continued weekly. Yeah no sh*t I'm not my brother or sister. (social studies)

Two of my favorites - were considered all time worst. Both science teachers.

So on what spectrum do you rate best/worst?

That is part of the issue to be honest. Even without union bullshit, it's hard to objectively compare the performance of teachers. Standardized testing has a lot of drawbacks, and "teaching to the test" is probably the worst way to develop useful life skills.

I have no solution, just impotent complaints.

This is the heart of the issue, it's virtually impossible to quantify job performance, but you just know a good teacher when your kid has been through their class and you know a bad one just the same.

Having a few shit-teachers is one of the most valuable life lessons available.

*Still noting that teachers don't have "gov't jobs".
