    Default 911 Hybird Sports car

I didn't see any posts about the new 911.
It's a pretty interesting concept. It has a new e-turbo, and Porsche claims that it eliminates turbo lag.
They also claim that this new technology is not even used in F1.

The single turbocharger is a Borg-Warner unit with a 27-hp electric motor sandwiched between the compressor and exhaust sides of the turbo. This motor greatly reduces turbo lag at low revs. For example, at 2000 rpm with a closed throttle, the old GTS required over three seconds to achieve full boost when the throttle was floored, while the new GTS does it in slightly less than one second—and that's while achieving considerably higher pressure.

This new electric turbo has no waste gate. Instead, at high rpm, the motor turns into a generator and harvests up to 15 horsepower, in the process of providing enough drag to keep the turbo from overspeeding. That electricity feeds into the electric motor and supplements total power from about 5700 rpm at full throttle.
    That is really cool

1649kg unladen weight for the Carrera 4 GTS.

No thanks, this isn’t the direction sports car weight should be going.

Well it is only 50Kg more than the last gen and 0 to 60 is under 3 Sec.
0 to 60 is not official number from Porsche. It is according Top Gear guys who were there but asked not to film when the number was set.

The problem is every half generation or generation it’s “just another 50kg” and that’s how we end up with 1800kg M3s etc.

The 997.2 C4 GTS was over 200kg lighter than the 992.2 C4 GTS, sure it was slower but more weight means more tire wear, reduced benefits of improved ICE and EV efficiency and lots of other downsides like material depletion and yet another increase in consumer cost.

Fair enough however the target market for the new 911 most likely doesn't worry about the Increase owner ship cost or the wear and tear

GTS won't have a manual option which is the biggest downside of this upgrade. PDK only.

So Porsche basically borrowed Mercedes's M256 electric supercharger idea from 7 years ago?

Yet another development that's going to drive the price of 997s up

Every month that goes by that I haven't bought one, I lose a little bit of interest as the price of 997s gets less and less reasonable.

It’s literally the mgu-h from F1. Mercedes uses it already in the AMG one as well as the e performance hybrid AMGs that everyone hates lol.

The cool new tech tho is running stoic afrs at 26psi boost and retarding timing. That’s gotta be some wild egts, but bonus is that energy is part of lag reduction strategy, as well as mgu-h energy harvesting.

I feel that Lotus is still bringing out cars that value the driver's experience and less about fastest 0-60 numbers. Loving the Lotus Emira

When I first saw I was thinking that this is similar to MGU-H but then I was surprised when TG said that Porsche claims that this is something new and not even the F1 has this tech.
Who knows this may be all marketing material from Porsche.

Getting rid of turbo lag is lame. My old 944 turbo had tons of lag and I loved it. These guys should be building cars with lots of lag, long gears so it feels like you are in a rocket ship when the boost comes on. Bring back 4 speeds and 930's.

Turbo lag feels so antiquated. Love NA throttle response, turbo ice + performance hybrid brings best of both worlds.

The turbo is neat, but what I’m very interested in is the clean slate 3.6L over square engine.

97x81mm. This is a revving machine, and is spinning to 7500 in this configuration.

Rumour had(s) it this clean slate is replacing the current GT3/RS flat 6. I believe the current engine is 102x81.5mm, so they’re looking to maintain NA nastiness. Love it.

Moreover, with the bigger displacement, motor in the pdk and e-turbo, this will feel like a big block.

Savagegeese have a video already, the comment:

    “So it’ll feel like a 5L 6 cylinder? YES!”
