Actually its quite the opposite. The s15 is the last engine you want to start with if you have big performace mods planned, just for the simple fact that the cost of the engine is almost 2times the amount as a red top or black top sr. The red/black top are the best engine to get if you plan on going for big #'s for the simple fact that you will beable to do it much cheaper than trying to do it using a s15 motor. The 6speed can always be adapted I believe to the earlier sr's, of course you'll need to rear diff from the s15 etc since thats where the speed sensor is on them, where the models before that had the speed sensor on the tranny.

You spend money you dont have to buy things you dont need to impress people you dont like

The only replacment for displacement is money.

I can see that, especially when most of the differences you stated before are ancillaries for the engine that can be swapped away during the mod process.

You see the SR coming in the Sunny GTI-Rs as well. Is the only diff here the tranny setup?

    Hey guys,

the car you guys are talking about is mine. Didn't know my car was worth somebody mentioning since it's basically stock looking. I've had it for about 3 years now, 2.5 years with the SR motor. I like the sleeper look and perfer to spend my cash on performance. Although there are days when I dream of a nice body kit along with matching rims...

I haven't got a chance to dyno with the new motor and turbo setup yet, I've heading down to LA next week and probably picking up bigger injectors before I put it on the dyno and turn up the boost. Currently, I'm running about 10psi and guessing that I'm pushing 250 whp. Once I get the injectors, I'll turn it up to 15psi and hopefully get at least 280-290 whp. There are a few guys in the states with the big28 turbo running around 320-330 @ 21psi with bolt-ons.

I'm not too big into street racing, unless... I see some idiot weaving in and out of traffic trying to show off. Then I'll usually wait for a clearing before I try to initiate something.

Lastly, I big THANKS to Auto Dream in Calgary for doing basically all the work on my car for the past few years. It seems like this swap is becoming increasing popular so I might see a few more SR's running around the city sometime soon.

    Tom.

    what is a BIGT28 turbo?
    is it a turbonetics?garrett?
Weird, I have a few friends with t3/t4 that makes around 400-450rwhp on honda engines and some even up to 600rwhp?

A big28 is a T25 turbo that has both housings bored out to fit larger wheels. It has the quick spool of a T25 with higher flow capabilities. According to Forced Performance in Texas, the BIG28 is effecient until 21 psi and could support around 330rwhp.

The T3/T4 I had produced 233 whp @ only 7 psi. I didn't push it past 7 psi because my injector duty cycle was already maxing out. With a properly tuned T3/T4 setup @ 20 psi the SR can reach the 400 whp with stock internals. This is quite a popular setup for the guys in the states. The turbo is relatively cheap with good power potential.

I really liked my T3/T4 setup, but I missed the instanteous response of the smaller turbo, that's why I switched. Where the T3/T4 really shines is once it passes the 4500 rpm mark, it pulls HARD. Below 3500, it's pretty weak.

The Big28 gets full boost by 3100rpm, tons of low end torque and extremely broad power band. Check out the first link for dyno chart.

Very nice. What size of injectors are you running now that you need to upgrade?

    Orrin,

I LOVE the Spec 3 clutch. Takes a while to get use to because it engages so quickly and abruptly. Definitely takes some touch to drive it around the streets. Pedal is slighter stiffer than stock and capable of holding 450+ lbs torque. Of course I'm no where near that level.

How are things gonna with your redtop? did you get a new head/block since we last talked? Later.

    DSM Power,

I'm currently running 370cc injectors and will be upgrading to 740cc. I'm maxing out at 10 psi (I tuned it on the rich side to avoid denotation) and figured the 740 will enable be to run higher boost without taxing the injectors too much. I'm chicken sh!t when it comes to pushing my motor... better safe than sorry (and heartbroken for the matter).

    Tom.
