You know, maybe it's not the politicians that are incorrect. Maybe we really are all bitches. It would explain so many things.

The voting bloc isn't sufficiently weighty to provide any leverage, which is the problem. There is no leverage to be had within the current structure. Indeed the current structure is designed specifically to deny that leverage. All paths lead back to a broken Confederation and the requirement for a legitimate threat of sovereignty. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Canadians, as a people, are very beta (pardon the bro term). But it's true. And Albertans are no exception, really. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Kert is right that it is very unlikely that Alberta et al will successfully pursue being un-bitches. I think it is more likely than he thinks, but it is what it is.
But PEI gets four ridings - each with an average of 35,000 people. Meanwhile, Alberta has an average riding size of 110,000 people. Why not just triple our number of ridings? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
PEI is over-represented, but they also don't have a huge number of seats to swing votes one way or the other. Giving Alberta more representation would, again, defeat the intent of Confederation (which is to centralize influence and voting power in Quebec and Ontario). This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. It would probably be easier for Alberta to separate than it would be to get true voting weight in Confederation.
There's your first mistake, thinking Kert is a man. Now do you know why you can never win an argument? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

This is where the benefit of a second (elected) chamber similar in structure to the US Senate would be good. Give every province 4 seats, territories 2, all chosen by elections every 4 years with a maximum of 4 terms total. I still can't wrap my head around why Canada's Senate was set up the way it was with lifetime appointments.
It makes more sense when you remember it’s modelled after the House of Lords lolThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The other chamber is for common people.
My goal in life is a senate appointment. That’s winning.

Alberexit!! Leave the confederation.
I think Alberta can adopt more of a approach like a Scottish SNP party. Build the consensus to leave, but never do it. Get on the media more, and have better structured arguments. Just be a hard thorn in the ass of Quebec and Ontario.
I don't think the politicians attack very well in parliament. They are too much like a bunch of angry Carebears. You Canadians are dam too nice.
This is the correct approach. But as I said... BetasThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The Allbeta party?
As I recall, Ted Morton in an interview pointed out that alberta would have more rights in terms of trade and shipping access with Canada as an independent state than it enjoys as province.
Too loud for Aspen
Right now Alberta is a coastal province (see the ocean?!). If Alberta separates that ocean goes away and Alberta immediately becomes landlocked. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Or so the logic goes.
Physically yes, in terms of international laws, apparently not. I think the example was made its easier for us to trade with Uzbekistan, that it is for us to trade with British Columbia.

I was just joking. One of the silly arguments people make when Alberta/Western sovereignty is discussed is they claim that Alberta would then be landlocked (!!!). As if Alberta is not landlocked right now. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
One more silly assumption people make is that if Alberta separates provincial borders will stay the same. People in northern BC may be sensible enough to join Alberta anyway... Or AB could just annex whatever seems necessary.
