Russians overthrowing a government because of poor living conditions? That's not an outcome I had considered.

As of the last couple days, pretty much all the major strategy/management consulting firms have stopped doing business in Russia (some even let go of all their Russian employees).

Again, not keeping up with the thread here, but have we talked about the prospect of the rest of the world making life so shitty for Russians that they eventually just revolt and attempt to overthrow the government?
I thought that’s how you create terrorists.

    So far, my understanding is:

Make life miserable for Russians with sanctions is ok.
Make life miserable for Russian athletes by not letting them compete is ok.
Make life miserable for local Russians by not supporting businesses is not ok.

Really wish the line and reasoning is more clear. I’m still shoveling and snow blowing my Russian neighbor’s sidewalk. Not sure if that’s ok.

I highly doubt this will start WWIII, but Putin does seem to be on a six to eight year invasion cycle. Meaning 2030 might be the end.

I don't understand the hate for all things Russian. I get sanctions and the overthrow of the regime etc, but I know lots of Russians and I will not stop liking them over what their old government is up to. They did nothing to anyone and are just living life like everyone right now. It is starting to feel like what WW2 and the Japanese Canadians went through could happen all over again. I want no part of that mentality.

BBC is reporting Russia has committed 100% of its operational troops, and is now shifting more forces to Ukraine as losses continue to mount. Russia is getting their shit pushed in, any non-nuclear conflict with NATO would mean catastrophic losses.

Russian troop morale is at an all time low.

They are in the field with no food, water, ammunition, fuel...

What war have we seen this play out in before...

Do you mean Russians, or Canadians with Russian heritage?

    No it's not.

Yeah, it's a dangerous gambit. You either rush the people to go against Putin or make him even stronger. What's next internment camps?

That is the slippery slope we are on. Banning or punishing people who live here who's crime is being from Russia.

It doesn't matter. Very broad brush strokes were used with interment camps.

I don't know any Russians living in Russia so I can't speak to them. I am referring to Russians here in Canada either born there and immigrated here or born here. Either way they have no part in anything going on right now.

I generally hate Russians because I have had several bad experiences with Russian strippers and relatively few business dealings with Russians elsewhere.

I also agree with this. The mob mentality sometimes have a very hard time making that distinction. We have already done it twice to Ukrainians and Japanese in Canada during WWI and WWII. People need to keep their head level about this.

I dont think those people are being targeted by our policies in any way. They're Canadians.

As COVID shows, most don't make that distinction.

Alternatively, the Russians buy into Putins ideas that the west is the enemy and then WW3 starts. Didn't Germany start WW2 after the west imposed a bunch of crippling sanctions in response to an earlier war?

You about to get canceled for supporting the enemy! haha

It's kind of nice to see some level headed people in the last few posts who realize that ordinary Russians, especially those living in Canada, have nothing to do with this. They left there for a reason...

Cbc having a real hard time deciding if a nazi flag at a protest makes it a nazi protest..
They are slipping up. More and more media are showing signs of exactly what Putin is using as his justification for the invasion. There are elements of neo-nazism in that part of the world, not just in Ukraine, but Poland and other countries, unfortunately no-one reports on this and anyone who mentions this gets crucified because if flies right in the face of the narrative that is being pushed by western media. Obviously not everyone is like that, but when you make a neo-nazi group officially a part of your military....you can kind of get an idea that Ukraine isn't an angel everyone portrays it to be...

I was born in the former USSR, which is the Ukraine now. I have no hate for the average Russian that has to live under Putins nonsense.

Speaking of COVID.....surprised there isn't a celebration and international praise for Russia....they single handedly made Covid a thing of the past...it's not even mentioned in the news anymore
