I always thought AI bubble will burst once people figure out there is only so much you can do with AI memes and videos. But this came out of nowhere where some guy built something for $5M beat out $billions and wiped $1T off stock market by releasing it for free.

At this point, it's opensource means your data are not at risk. (well not at risk than the usual anyway, CCP can still set up a front and buy whatever they want in Silicon Valley in the open market)
Open source is just the code being open, so yea in theory you can run it locally if you’ve got a metric ton of hardware. The app itself that everyone is downloading and using is run and hosted in china and everything you’re sending it (hopefully not work data) is being sent and stored in China.

Trades where the work comes to you seem to be the best for lifestyle. Machinists and millwrights would be high on my list for that. Electrical, Refrig, HVAC are all going to be very shorthanded, but you gotta be moving every day, which doesn't appeal to everyone.
Motion is lotion, baby. Sitting at a desk you kill you faster than anything.

Yea of course. Was strictly talking about r1 even while optimized still needing a ton of hardware, but just a fraction of others.

None of this was surprising. This is the AI equivalent of the guy who invented .zip for compression. It's a slightly quicker advance towards commodity models than we were expecting. But the models will be commoditized.

This is going up feel like smart phones 10-15 years ago. New launches were exciting... But now they are all sorta getting to the same spot.

Just discovered they've added CoPilot to our Microsoft365 accounts

Asked it to summarise a few reports and engineering studies, excellently productive...my beyond post count will now skyrocket

    Check you bill.

Also, W11 PC with NPUs will now have Deepseek built in.

A lot of people are now running Deepseek locally so you are not forfeiting data to Microsoft/OpenAI/Google.

I'm a heavy copilot user now. I use it to transcribe and summarize meetings, tell me my priorities daily/weekly, and reminds me if I missed any action items.

I'm writing a business case right now for my project and I used copilot to read through 30 documents each containing hundreds of pages of analysis to answer a few questions. As it's in the M365 suite - I told copilot what folder to look in and to find answers to questions like.... "Provide me an overview of each of the phases of the project in less than 1 page" and "Summarize the key project risks, mitigation plans for each risk, and the residual risk"

I pay consultants to do analysis for me, create fancy powerpoint summaries, and then copilot to summarize the analysis for me as well so i can compare it to the consultants. lol

"Moreover, while GenAI can improve worker efficiency, it can inhibit critical engagement with work and can potentially lead to long-term overreliance on the tool and diminished skill for independent problem-solving."

We have been on the same slippery slope since Google was a thing. What is troubleshooting other than Googling an answer from someone else with the same problem.
