I haven't heard anything lately from anyone regarding Badlands. Usually that is not a good thing. Anyone know how it's proceeding?

No new news. See the post by JZatBMR on page 21 for the latest. The facebook page is usually up to date as well.
These things take time. As someone in the development field building stuff like this scale takes forever.

EDIT: I misunderstood something that was said. My bad.
The last time he posted was almost a year ago (2014) and I lot can happen since then. I was hoping there was a more recent update.Originally posted by jacky4566

My apologies for the long absence from the last update.
The major reason is we don't have much to update. Everything we need to do to proceed has been completed on our part. But we are dealing with multiple government bodies at this point, not just the County.
Yes, we hoped this process would be much quicker but it's not something we can control.
Nothing has changed with regards to our plan. The downturn in the economy could actually be an advantage as construction costs have come down a bit.
We would love to give a estimate on when construction could commence, but since it's beyond our control that has shown to be quite difficult.
So we wait.

Any updates?
Apparently, yes! I had not seen this:

They submitted engineering plans to the County in August (yep, REAL drawings ... not just artist's renderings!) for permit purposes. Jay mentioned that they wanted to begin construction this coming spring upon approval of said drawings.
So that is soon!

Looks like something new is happening:

Looks like they've partnered with Avion Motorsports (the Area 27 owners) and are targeting a September 2021 opening

Be cool if that is achieved. I would have thought it would be a 2-season construction project though, so that timeline is a bit aggressive.

Good news but wow, that sounds like an optimistic timeline. I wonder if they finished Area 27 only twelve months after the shovels started. I will guess they didn't, but if they did, keep in mind their more favourable winter construction weather. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I still hope they don't have anymore major hurdles.
Fingers crossed they don't find Dinosaur bones or arrowheads.

Show QuoteThat doesn't sound like theyre doing great financiallyThe first phase would involve constructing one track and temporary buildings. The cost would be about $30 million, said Zelazo. The developers also have to pave the road leading to the site, which would cost about $15 million. Zelazo is hopeful the provincial government may cover that cost.
So far, the group has raised about $5 million, he said.
I pulled out over a year ago. Took like 12 weeks for the lawyer to send my money back.
Zelazo isnt the guy for the job and somebody else should have taken this over by now.
"Hopeful the government may cover the cost"
Using the word "hope" in any type of a plan or strategy is laughable.
I seem to recall getting angrily replied to a few years ago for stating that RMMP was in a better financial position than Badlands due to the people behind each project...weird how that worked out.

RMMP had so much money that they had Tilke design a track on a plot of land they didn’t have and couldn’t get approvals on. Badlands went through the process and got approvals for everything the right way, but don’t have the money to build. One wonders what could’ve been if they worked together. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

It's unfortunate because I honestly think there's enough users to support both tracks. But there was always going to be one that was a winner in all of this when it came down to trying to get both built in the same general time frame.

To be honestly I struggle to rationalize how any of these tracks bring in enough money to justify how much they cost.
It’s not like they are making bank from big pro events, and frankly i doubt any of the great tracks of the world would get built today if you gave a developer the option. There is no way the economics go around.
