Today will be interesting for Trudeau. The government has ended the airlift operation well before the Aug 31 deadline that just two days ago, Trudeau was all gung-ho about staying after. Now the useless architect of Op Medusa is claiming that Canada "needed" to leave early because the US is leaving next week.

Even worse is that even though most of the Canadian personnel have left, they left some behind to help the other countries that are still there. And they only airlifted about 3,700 people out since the 19th (not all would be Canadians or Afghans coming here), after starting operations late.

Military and international relations are not his strong suit.

This statement would imply he has one.

    Cbc doesn't do great articles.

Also it makes it obvious that Muslim people view Islamic theocracies differently than the rest of the population.

I think it's pretty common to give the benefit of the doubt to governments controlled by a religious group when you are part of that religion, even if you are a different branch/sect etc.
See Jews lack of critical discussion of Israel policies etc.

I live a pretty sheltered life, but of all the "seriously religious" people I have met, I think the Mulsims are the least offensive and easiest to live with. Strongly religious Christians are often insufferable.

Do you spend a lot of time with “strongly religious” muslims?

I don't spend a lot of time with anyone, I'm a hermit, but I do currently and have previously worked with some strongly religious muslims, as well as hung out with some socially, the few times I do go out socially.

I realize this is now turning into the old "I can't be homophobic, I know a gay dude" kind of discussion. Whatever. All I'm saying is I like Muslims.

Yeah the Muslim people I know who are deeply religious personally are not at all wanting to push their beliefs on others and simply want to live their own life as they do. They are heavily embarrassed by the extremist jihad type and are some of the nicest, most genuine people I know.

It is a shame that they all get tarred by the same brush as the idiots, but I guess that is human nature no different than any other stereotypes that exist.

We do the same with Mormons here. The interesting bit isn't the typical social interactions, it's when you scrape just below the surface of the belief system. Christianity has turned largely into a metaphorical religion rather than a literal religion, so we assume other religions are like that as well.

Yeah that is quite true. I think it is just more of an evolution things where the Christians have had more time to become modern and westernized for the most part, but still not completely. Let's face it. Truly fundamentalist Christians are pretty fucking scary too. The Muslim faith has not been as out there in our western society as long and is evolving too but has not reached that same place yet.

My question still remains, would mainstream canadian muslims refer to terrorists as their brothers? Seems like no to me, but I don't really have an understanding of islam

It is quite common for men to refer to men as brother whether part of religion or not. I am all tattooed whitey and not religious in any way and am called brother all the time. That is in personal dealings though and not in the broad sense as if talking about a group of people.

I would say that is a common Canadian way to use the term. I call friends and family brother often enough, Faraz called me brother hundreds of times (not sure if anyone get's the reference). But I find it hard to believe that the term is would be used to describe someone you were at war with for 12+ years. Maybe the Koreans, I don't know.

Anyways, news today is that Trudeau hates house flipping while selecting a house flipper as an vancouver candidate.

Trudeau doing "me too" to stop loss of votes to NDP/Con is amusing to watch.
