    Default Pre purchase inspection

Looking to buy a used VW, any good shops to recommend taking the vehicle to for a PPI? Or should I just use one of the local VW dealers? How much do shops typically charge for an inspection nowadays?

One more thing, would it still be advisable to independently inspect a CPO vehicle which is being sold through a VW dealership?

If it's CPO then they should be providing you paperwork from the CPO inspection, which would have been just as thorough as a PPI from somebody else.

I wouldn't feel it necessary to have a 3rd party inspection on top of that.

Especially if some form of warranty or grace period is being provided.

I'd even go so far as to say that a CPO car from a dealership went through an even more thorough inspection then an inspection done by some random shop.

They always have the bazillion point inspect that they tote. I bought my acura cpo and got a copy of the inspection and also a car proof with the car and they had no issues replacing the battery the next week and the wipers. I would assume VW would be about the same?

Thanks for the info regarding dealerships CPO, sounds like it takes much of the guesswork out of buying used off their lot. Now the question is if I were to purchase a privately owned or non CPO VW. Are there any recommended shops for this or should I just book an appointment for a VW dealer to inspect it? If I go that route then which dealer is best for service? Northland, Southcentre or 5th ave? The vehicles I'm considering are MKVI GTI's. I would prefer to buy new but not too fond of the MKVII look, also first production year run in the Mexican plant concerns me. I would prefer a R but it won't be released until Q3 2015 as a 2016 model.

My wife's got a 2012 which is for sale for the right price

We've had no issues with Southcentre for service but I can't speak to the others.

    stay away from Northland.
South Centre Fine Cars are a pretty stand up group to deal with I did all my servicing with my Jetta there and my current ride has only gone to 5th Ave who have never let me down.

Honestly, Tune Dub seems to get the most rave reviews but I've never had experience taking my VW's there.

No need to inspect a CPO car unless SDS did the inspection.

After warranty, Tune Dub is the one stop shop.

Problem with tunedub is the long wait time. You probably need to book 3-4 weeks out.

you could try germcancarspecialists, or mid-town service... but wait times will be long.

I used to go to Tunedub, but ever since I found Mike's Autohaus in Airdrie I never went back.
