any free firewall software out there that lets you edit port permissions? I'm running zone alarm right now and it's you do or you don't with no in betweens.. i need to be able to leave some ports open and close other ones..

I don't know of any free ones, but I would get a used router for like 10 or 20 bucks and let it do all the work.

well I have a router right now. I have the desktop going to the internet as one IP, and the i have another IP that is designated to the router, it's just the IP i get is very dynamic so i can't really do any port forwarding.
do some subnetting and block off the ports that arn't used with the router ...
the subnetting will give you less dynamic ip addressing and as for your open ports you should be able to select which ones you want to close and which one you want to stay open through the console

I think there use to be one called Mini Firewall, but I can't be sure...hope this helps
